This morning I made my first confession in several years. I got through everything I could remember, but when the priest was nearly done with the words of absolution, I remembered something else that I had meant to mention, but it was too late. The thing I forgot was possibly a mortal sin, but I’m not 100% sure I committed it; I couldn’t cite a specific example, but I think I did, so it was on my list.

Is my confession valid? May I receive communion on Easter?

Hi,

Your Confession sounds valid. So long as we don’t deliberately with-hold confessing a mortal sin, all our sins are forgiven–even the ones we have forgotten. The next time you go to Confession mention the one you remembered too late–not because it hasn’t been forgiven, but to express your sorrow for having committed it.
