Help,

I have just completed the RCIA program. My husband and I are in the process of getting annulments from our first marriages. He is Catholic and was married the first time in a Catholic Church.

I have never been baptized and I think my ex-husband was baptized by his grandfather, an ordained Presbytarian minister. We were married in a church, but not a Catholic church. Does the Catholic church recognize my first marriage as a sacrament?

Thank you!!!

Hi,

Both people must have been baptized for a marriage to be a sacrament. However, it can still be valid. You will need to seek an annulment for your first marriage.’’
