Was Pat Robertson correct on Haiti?

It’s OK, Tabitha. I think you’ve clarified your original comments to the point that no one can now question your motives! 🙂

Thanks. I just feel REALLY stupid. 😊 I’m an English geek, and I love to do research. I shouldn’t have said anything without being able to cite my source.

Thank you all for being so patient with me.

It’s time like this that I wish I was able to quote scripture… but the points remain, even if I can’t give specific addresses.

For starters, after the Great Flood, God promised to never eradicate the earth like that again.

That’s Old Testament.

In the New Testament, in John I, some people asked Christ if a man was blind because of wrong-doings of his parents. Christ answered that the man wasn’t blind as some punishment for his parents, but so that the Glory of God could be seen. 🙂

Based on those two points in scripture, and also, we have no way of knowing of any real Deal with the Devil… I am not prone to believing the whole premise.😉

Rolltide, I just want to thank you for all that information. I’ve been sounding
really smart when I talk about it now. It’s a relief to be informed. Everyone just
calms right down.

These pact with the devil statements have always puzzled me. How exactly does one go about making a pact with the devil? I have a feeling there’s not any extensive documentation around guiding you in the process. How exactly would the Haitians have made a pact with the devil; since he calls them Haitians, did everyone participate; and how would anyone know that they really did it - did they go around bragging about it afterwards?

🤷
On this subject, exactly who has an authority to make a pact with the devil on behalf of the nation? I have a feeling these days it would require an act of Congress or something for the US to do that officially. But there are probably lots of people throughout history who make unofficial pacts with the devil, maybe even your next door neighbor, thinking they are doing it on behalf of the whole country even.

I missed this post, but one of the instructors in my parish’s RCIA team did exactly this, on behalf of him self only though. His assertion (and I don’t doubt it) is that he wrote out a contract, asking for specific things from the devil, and signed it in blood. Further more, it is his assertion that he got everything on his list, and of course a whole lot more he didn’t ask for like congestive heart failure as a result of years of drug and alcohol abuse.

Through the prayers of his step mother, he has literally been given a new heart, both literally and spiritually. He no longer experiences congestive failure (I’m told this is a condition which typically is incurable), and he is now the most devote Catholic Christian I’ve ever personally met (aside from Priests, who are his equal). This man oozes grace if that were possible, you get a powerful sense of it.

Of course with regard to Haiti, nothing that I posted has any barring what so ever. Do I beleive one could make a pact with the devil? Oh yes I do, that said if one looks at the situation in Haiti rationally, I think what you will find is exactly what has been posting. Haiti’s troubles have been the result of an international uneven hand, and bitterness over a successful slave revolt. Out side of biased sources, there seems to be no data available regarding this supposed contract.

Further more, even when one takes my story into account, one must consider the real point of this story. That God’s mercy knows no limits, just about any sin can be forgive. I think the only sin Jesus specifically stated which can not be forgiven (either in this world, or the next) is against the Holy Spirit. My best understanding of sinning against the Holy Spirit would be, for instance, denying that God can forgive any (other) sin.

I’m surprised that anyone takes Pat Robertson as being relevant anymore. I think he used up all his relativism in his presidential bid. Once he got out from under the shadow of evangelicalism into the light of a pluralistic society he ceased being relative. What he said will probably reverberate amongst some evangelicals but even there he is becoming less of a force. With Jerry Falwell gone and Jimmy Swaggert and Jim Bakker disgraced and now Pat Robertson making such statements the evangelical movement may have peaked. Now I’m waiting to see what Grant Jeffries, Hal Lindsay and Jack van Impe will say when December 21, 20012 comes and goes with nothing happening.

RCIA classes forming now. No waiting. Avoid the rush later

The light of pluralism?
Yeah, I know. I never intended to complement pluralism. What I meant was as long as he was preaching to the choir [meaning the evangelicals] he never appeared on the radar screen of society in general. His presidential bid changed all that and once he was exposed to society [and the secular media] outside of the evangelical world his statemments came back to haunt and hurt him. He not only lost the presidential bid but suffered a loss amongst the evangelicals too.
