Was Pilate a Prefect or a Procurator?

Some who doubt Scripture say Pilate was not a procurator as scripture says. Some say he was a Prefect that was found in Roman Historical records.
Any thoughts on this?

Apparently Prefect was the term used for governers of Judea up until 44AD and Procurator was used after.

I thank you for your clarification of the issue. Some people who advocate the Jesus myth (e.g. most of the atheists on IIDB’s BC&H forum) uses this as a way to disregard Tiberius’ account. I do believe Jesus existed though.
