That was a bad demand by DiL. The permission by God is evident. Otherwise wise men of God would not do multiple marriage. The present day catholics consider themselves above the prophets of God. How bad!! And arrogance!! They must repent from those bad ideas and return to God. Otherwise their prayers and worship will all go waste.
If polygamy was not commanded by Godinthe bible then at least it was permitted. The same is being denied by the Catholics.
There was nothing quoted in what you said about remarriage? you are living in your fantasy world again planten. you are not going to derail this and ive already shown where it says one man and one woman in hamba’s reply, but since you live in a dream world, i will quote it again for you.

Genesis 2:
24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife,** and they become one flesh.**
25 Now, both of them were naked, the man and his wife, but they felt no shame before each other.

This is exactly the same commandment that Jesus later gave us in
Mark 10
7 This is why a man leaves his father and mother,
8 and the two become one flesh. They are no longer two, therefore, but one flesh.
I do not go for less than Jesus. I do not go for Paul at all. Ypou show me One man and one wife only. And that it would be a sin to marry another one.
I just did mr taqqiya
That is irrelevant. It is about divorce in which you are wrong again. It is bad to divorce a lady without serious reasons. Every one admits that. But to do away with the divorce altogether is to do away with your religion. that is what is happening to catholicism these days. Catholics are getting divorce from the courts. Where goes your religion then?
Face the facts, getting divorced then getting remarried is COMMITTING ADULTERY!
Oh and I see your deploying the old tactics of how us bad catholics are divorcing, for your information, its NOT the church that is allowing these divorces, its civil courts that undo the marriage. Hence the words of God:
Mat 19
4 He answered, ‘Have you not read that the Creator from the beginning made them male and female
5 and that he said: This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife, and the two become one flesh?
6 They are no longer two, therefore, but one flesh. So then, **what God has united, human beings must not divide.’ **

In islam, all you have to do is say i divorce you 3 times, this gives man the power to divorce his wife, or in your religions case, wives, this is going against the word of God, from the beginning, before any of the prophets. Your religion is breaking Gods law.
Jesus admitted that divorce was allowed by Moses. The rest of the words only show that divorce is a bad thing. That is all. It does not nullify the divorce entirely… In rest of the words, no where it says that a man cannot have two wives. Show me those words please…
You have deliberately seperated the quote i showed you for your own reference and it is a blantant lie you have just demonstrated. It says in the quotes I have given you the following:
6 But from the beginning of creation he made them male and female.
7 This is why a man leaves his father and mother,
8 and the two become one flesh. They are no longer two, therefore, but one flesh.

Again, you have neglected to understand this, i even highlighted this for you so you could read it, but you fail to understand so i will explain it to as i would a five year old.
This means, when a man, and a woman, become united in marriage and they become one in marriage, one flesh. God did not say 2 wives, he said wife:
Genesis 2:
24 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife, and they become one flesh.
That is all good words. We have similar words in islam. Show me Jesus said “Do not have two wives.”
I just did and you show me the words in islam that are similar!

How to prove that polygamy was the result of God’s curse.
You were talking about Isaiah. The verse mentioned describes what would happened when the curse of God fell on people who rebelled against him. So there would be polygamy and tribulation.
Muhammad had a few wives. He did not have any concubines. .
Alright, you do not use the word ‘concubine’. It was slave girls then.

You did not anwer my question: how many wives Mohammad had then (not counting the slave girls of course)? You mean you do not know the number of wives your prophet had? It would be difficult to take you seriously as a knowledgeable Muslims if you do not know about your own prophet.
It is no use comparing LDS and Islam. We can leave LDS out of it.
I am sorry if you do not like the comparison. It just caught my attention after you Muslims come in to this thread – and I was thinking, goodness, both of you believe in the same thing!

Then I noticed that both of you have a prophet who believed that each was sent by God respectively with new revelations. And bingo, polygamy is allowed! There is similarity there, isn’t it? Both of course rejected Jesus by the differences in their teaching compared to that of Jesus respectively.

In the case of Muhammad, it is all purity, pious life, like that of Jesus and Moses. But you people are guilty of finding faults with many prophets of God, mostly with Muhammad, who had been a model of excellence for all mankind till the day of judgement.

Nobody can find another excellent man like Muhammad, before or after him. Search as much as you like.
I do not know much about Mohammad except that have been informed by you Muslims. I know that he taught polygamy because that is what you admitted. He had many wives but you do not know the number of his wives, it’s rather embarrassing. Perhaps you would like to keep that fact to yourself, eh? Perhaps, it is bad for public relation for Mohammad since you clearly want to put up a good image of him – pure, role model of excellence, et al.

But I think polygamy is not from God because when you practice polygamy you are no different from animals. Monkeys do it, baboons do it, dogs do it; even pigs do it. If you have a pig farm, sorry you don’t I guess, but if you have a pig farm, you will only need to have one sow (male pig) to impregnate all the female pigs and you will multiply the number of your pigs a hundred folds.

But polygamy is not for human. When God created human and other creature he created them in pair. It was a man and a woman; not a man and two or four woman. Thus when man marries he will only marry one wife. But animals don’t. They can have as many females in their prides or troops or herds. They are against the nature of God; that is why they are animals.

When human practice polygamy, it is not because God commanded them to do so but because it is due to their weakness. God does not command human to do things that arise from human’s weakness. God does not command humans to commit sins. Therefore polygamy can never be from God. And God does not want us to stoop down to the level of animals; He wants us to be masters of them.

You said (in the other thread) if a person eats pig he will be like pig. I do not believe you for a second because we Christians can eat pig but we do not act like pigs. It is always monogamy for us. But you Muslims who do not eat them proved to act otherwise. So how can we Christian posters believe what you said here?

You mean prophets before OT (Abraham and Issac and Jacob) did not know about the God permitted laws? You mean the prophets of the OT did not understand the OT??
Moses came AFTER Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God gave Moses the 10 Commandments.

Alot of things were permitted before the Law of Moses. Even incest. I’d imagine God didn’t condemn anything yet because they were primitive people and He knew He’d just be screwing up alot of relationships. 🤷 But Jesus Christ taught marriage between A man and** A** woman. He made the law more morraly strict. “Man and woman He created them. And for this purpose, man will leave his parents and be joined to his wife. And the two shall become one flesh. And what God has brought togethe, let no man seperate.”

LDS confuse God’s mercy for an acknowledgment that sin is allowed. Particularly in the case of Abraham.

God promised a son

3 Abram continued, “See, you have given me no offspring, and so one of my servants will be my heir.” 4 Then the word of the LORD came to him: “No, that one shall not be your heir; your own issue shall be your heir.” 5 He took him outside and said: “Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you can. Just so,” he added, “shall your descendants be.” 6 Abram put his faith in the LORD, who credited it to him as an act of righteousness.

Sarah did not trust God, if she did she would not have tried try to fulfill God’s promise by using Hagar.

2 Sarai said to Abram: “The LORD has kept me from bearing children. Have intercourse, then, with my maid; perhaps I shall have sons through her.” Abram heeded Sarai’s request.

God fulfills His promise of a son with Sarah.

15 God further said to Abraham: “As for your wife Sarai, do not call her Sarai; her name shall be Sarah. 16 I will bless her, and I will give you a son by her. Him also will I bless; he shall give rise to nations, and rulers of peoples shall issue from him.”

Abraham begs that Ishmael be blessed.

17 Abraham prostrated himself and laughed as he said to himself, “Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Or can Sarah give birth at ninety?” 18 Then Abraham said to God, “Let but Ishmael live on by your favor!”

God shows His mercy.

19 God replied: "Nevertheless, your wife Sarah is to bear you a son, and you shall call him Isaac. I will maintain my covenant with him as an everlasting pact, to be his God and the God of his descendants after him. 20 ** As for Ishmael, I am heeding you: I hereby bless him.** I will make him fertile and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall become the father of twelve chieftains, and I will make of him a great nation.

Of course, we have seen in other threads that LDS believe God desires that we sin.

As noted earlier, revelation is a process that took thousands of years. God revealed the first things first, and grew it from there to include the rest. Even some of the earliest revelation, the 10 commandments, hinted at the meaning of human sexuality. 2 of the 10 were restrictions on perversions of sexuality. Why do Mormons and muslims think God forbids fornication? Is it just an arbitrary rule that must be obeyed or does God command it because it violates a basic reality of what He created us to be? If the latter, doesn’t having multiple wives violate that same principle?

Firstly, I’d say it’s clear that nowhere in the Bible does He command polygamy. Does He allow it? I’m not entirely sure. It’s never explicitly forbidden. Maybe we can say it’s like divorce - once accepted, but in the New Testament forbidden as the original plan was restored. So the Patriarchs would not have been sinning, but latter-day (forgive the pun) polygamists like the Mormons would be.

In any case, since as I said it’s nowhere commanded, if the civil laws forbid it they ought to be obeyed.

Due to various reasons, men have shorter life spans than women and so in just about any society around the world, women would outnumber men.

Anyhow, the question really should be rephrased to be → Does God in the Bible allow polygamy?

And the answer is certainly ‘Yes’.
The advent of man meant little in the way of partners. God allowed certain things that are no longer allowed per His definition.

God allowed Cain to marry his sister. They were the first to populate the earth after Adam and Eve. And if you look at Genesis literally, then Adam and Eve must have had many children that married as brother and sister. Once man established himself as a viable population God condemned adultery, incest and the like. That includes polygamy today.

First thing i have got to say to you is…
TAQIYYA King!
and have you heard of this commandment…
Thall shalt NOT commit adultery?
The problem is, muslims and other cult religions are fans of taking quotes out of context (which Hamba did earlier and i will address that in a minute) from the bible.
I will show you planten, that the COMMAND of God IS for one man and one woman ONLY!

1 Corinthians
7:2 yet to **avoid immorality **every man should have his own wife and every woman her **own husband. **

The difference in meaning of wife and wives…
Wife: ONE person, ONE married person to her husband.
Wives: Multiple woman for ONE man.
Show me in that sentence it says a man should have more than one wife?

More extracts from the bible to prove God only wants one man for one woman and vice versa.

Mat
19:9 Now I say this to you: anyone who divorces his wife – I am not speaking of an illicit marriage – and marries another, is guilty of adultery.

Mark 10
2 Some Pharisees approached him and asked, ‘Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?’ They were putting him to the test.
3 He answered them, ‘What did Moses command you?’
4 They replied, ‘Moses allowed us to draw up a writ of dismissal in cases of divorce.’
5 Then Jesus said to them, ‘It was because you were so hard hearted that he wrote this commandment for you.
6 But from the beginning of creation he made them male and female.
7 This is why a man leaves his father and mother,
8 and the two become one flesh. They are no longer two, therefore, but one flesh.
9 So then, what God has united, human beings must not divide.’
10 Back in the house the disciples questioned him again about this,
11 and he said to them, ‘Whoever divorces his wife and marries another is guilty of adultery against her.
12 And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another she is guilty of adultery too.’
TAQIYYA King!

You said it! 👍

One question I would ask is this: if polygamy were God-pleasing, why does God create men and women in a perfect 50/50 ratio? Wouldn’t it make sense for Him to create two or three or four women for every man if it were indeed His will that men cleave to more than one wife? Because as it stands now, every polygamist leaves at least one man without a wife…
Nominefili,

You make a good point. Here is what I personally believe. This is my personal opinion and not necessarily the doctrines of my church. I believe that no child of God can obtain the highest degree of perfection without being married whether in this life or the next. I believe procreation will continue in the next life for those worthy of it. In addition, I believe in general, women are more righteous than men. If this is true, then there are many more righteous women who have lived on this earth than there are righteous men. I believe God has Perfect Justice. Therefore plural marriage is the only way for God to be perfectly just. It would be unjust for many righteous women to not have the same right to all these blessings God has in store for them.

Gen 4:19 “Lamach married two women.” This is the first instance of polygamy in the bible.

I agree that there’s no commandment in the Torah/Bible regarding polygamy. Only the fact that it was apparently acceptable.

In the Torah, we can see that there is an understanding of the way things were at the time it was written. Rather than outlaw it, it sets forth various rules to ensure justice for the wives and children (i.e., first born gets what is due the first born, even if the man hates that child or that wife. He can’t go to the first born of another wife).

The average guy (then and now) couldn’t afford to have multiple wives, so it was probably not a common practice.
I think most Christians today prefer to ignore the fact that pologamy was practiced in the Bible. It makes them feel uncomfortable. To be technical, they always practiced “polygyny” which is the practice of having more than one wife. “Polygamy” can refer to either multiple wives or husbands.

I have no desire whatsoever for the practice, but I cannot deny it was acceptable by the Lord in the Bible.

Your personal understanding and translation of the bible will never cease to make me stop doing this: :rotfl:
You show me one, and more if you wish, that God of the bible says:yes i allow polygamy.
And, there is a catch, you cant take things out of context… this should be an interesting challenge for you
Apparently you didn’t read the beginning of this post with scripture references. Here’s one of the better ones. To avoid taking things out of “context” I have included verses 1-8 for you to read.

2 Samuel 12:1-8

"And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.

2The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:

3But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.

4And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.

5And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:

6And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

7And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

8And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things."

Can it be more clear?

What is your definition of plural MARRIAGE? Does the Bible make reference to marriage ceremonies? Is the word “marriage” mentioned in the OT? If so, please provide references.

thanks!
When I say “plural marriage”, I am referring to “polygyny” specifically or the practice of having more than one wife.

Marriage ceremonies? I’m not sure, but can a person get married without a marriage ceremony?

Type in the word “marriage” in any online Bible and you’ll get plenty. Here’s just one sample:
“If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.” (Exodus 21:10)
Also another great word to search for is “wives”. You’ll find plenty of references in the OT to plural marriage or “polygyny”.

chris - show where God “sanctioned” polygamy.

Abraham - Isaac - Jacob were pre-Moses/pre-10 Commandments.
Please see all my scriptures in the beginning of this thread refering to the Lord giving Moses instructions to the Lord giving David wives, etc.

Come on guys. I know we all don’t like polygamy, but we have to at least read the OT and be honest with ourselves.

chris - one last thing, if God commanded it, then why don’t/didn’t faithful Jews practice it?
Throughout the history of the earth from Adam until now, God at various times has commanded that polygamy be practiced and other times God has commanded that polygamy NOT be practiced. Whenever polygamy was practiced, I don’t believe there was ever a time where ALL practiced it – just a small few. From what I understand, even among the Mormon’s who practiced polygamy in the 1800’s, only about 3% of the church membership practiced polygamy. It is a touchy subject now and it was a touchy subject then.

Can it be more clear?
Quite clear, a transfer of position, property and power. Not seeing your commandment to participate in polygyny or as it is euphemistically called “plural marriage”.

The question is: where does God in the Bible it says, “Yes, I will allow polygamy”.

The Ten Commandments is pretty obvious. For example, thou shalt not kill; the command is not to kill. So the question is, where does it say, “Go out and practice polygamy”? You can’t find it because there is none. If there is none then we have to fall back on the general commandment of God about marriages especially the original plan. It clearly says for a man to ‘cleave’ to his wife and be one flesh and no man should separate them. It is adultery even if we look at another person with lust – a strict reminder not to think about it (to have another wife).

Yes, some prophets practice polygamy, but so what? Moses killed but so what? If we have to follow all the human action that prophets did, then we do not need the Commandment of God, do we? 😉
God never commanded EVERYONE to practice polygamy. However, at times only the most righteous were practicing this with the Lord’s approval.

Moses killed in self-defense. This is not murder. There are many instances a person can kill righteously. If I am defending my daughter from being raped and killed, I SHOULD kill to defend her life or I am an unrighteous coward.
