Was Pontius Pilate a saint?

I thought I read in Pope Benedicts book on the apostles that Pontius Pilate was thought to have repented, converted and become a saint in on of the other Rites/Churches, but no amount of searching in this book can find a reference to this.

I am wondering if any of you have heard about this, or can give me a reference to it.

I am aware that the Eastern Orthodox church considers his wife to be a saint. Perhaps I got him confused with her.

Pilate is considered a Saint within the Ethiopian Church based on the apocryphal work the Acts of Pilate.

The legend, as I remember it, is that his wife converted to Christianity… Catholicism if you will.

I think several of the Orthodox Churches consider Pilate a Saint, the story being that his wife converted shortly after the Crucifixion and Pilate, later, in Rome. Another story concerning Pilate is that in remorse for killing Christ he committed suicide by drowning himself in a Marsh in Italy.

I think that you will find that in the Coptic tradition Pilate became a saint later in life.
