Was Rasputin possessed? What was his impact on Russian history? (also Our Lady of Fatima)

His supposed-healing powers fascinated me. Yet unlike the healer Padre Pio, Rasputin was far from holy. Exorcists say that they can often tell someone is possessed by how their eyes look, and Rasputin’s eyes don’t look at all normal.

Our Lady of Fatima tells us that Russia was a threat that would spread its errors around the world. Is it possible that Rasputin was tied into this? Although the errors apparently meant Communism, and Rasputin and Lenin were on opposing sides, maybe there is a connection here, like Rasputin’s effect on the country hastened the coming of the Communists.

To Western sensibilities Rasputin’s looks are off-putting, but then again certain anti-Catholics love to use how Pope Benedict’s eyes appear when he is looking from a particular angle in order to make him appear odd or even demonic, and we know that’s not the case. As for Rasputin’s ability to heal, he never healed the prince, he only made him feel better dealing with his condition. He may have been employing a form of hypnosis before it was called that or understood to be that, but the prince’s blood condition never was cured by him.

He certainly had an effect on Russia through the royal family–a very unfortunate one for the times. But, the revolution that came was a long time coming based on the Russian peasantry tired of being treated like slaves by their overlords. It was most unfortunate the Lenin came along when he did. Our Lady was talking about the results of all that happened in Russia not who caused it, really, IMHO.

I don’t think he was possessed. I think he just had a very powerful personality and unique eyes, and he was in the right place at the right time in history. I agree that he used a form of hynotism to “heal” Prince Alexis. Perhaps he even made use of “aromatherapy” using some kind of herb or flower. (Supposedly Rasputin himself smelled terrible.)

Nowadays, there are so many unique-looking people and we can see them online or on television–I’m not sure that a man like Rasputin would have any influence had he been born today.

OTOH, a person with a strong personality and lots of determination/ambition can still wield tremendous influence; e.g., Michael Moore.
