Was Saint Anne a Judahite or a Levite?

According to ‘Gospel of the Nativity of Mary’, “The blessed and glorious ever-virgin Mary, sprung from the royal stock and family of David, born in the city of Nazareth, was brought up at Jerusalem in the temple of the Lord. Her father was named Joachim, and her mother Anna. Her father’s house was from Galilee and the city of Nazareth, but her mother’s family from Bethlehem.”

I’ve heard it said that St. Anne was a Levite. I’m not sure if that contradicts the above quote or not, but the above quote seems to imply that St. Anne was a Judahite.

I know St. Zacharias and his son St. John the Baptist were from the line of Aaron (and thus Levites) but, was St. Elizabeth, the kinswoman of the Virgin Mary and wife of St. Zacharias, also a Levite or was she a Judahite who married a Levite?

Also, is it known how specifically the Virgin Mary and St. Elizabeth were related, as in what type of cousins they were, i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd?

Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich says that St. Ann’s father was of the tribe of Levi, and her mother was of the tribe Benjamin. (life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, p. 19.)

About Stolanus (this man was an Essene) and Emorun (Anna’s grandmother):
"I saw that their daughters Ismeria and Emerentia both married in accordance with the prophetic counsels of the prophet on Horeb. (I can never understand why I have so often heard that Emerentia was the mother of Anna, for I always saw that it was Ismeria.)

“Emerentia married one Aphras or Ophras, a Levite. Of this marriage was bom Elisabeth, the mother of John the Baptist.”

So Bl. Emmerich has Anna and Elizabeth as first cousins, making Elizabeth the Virgin Mary’s second cousin.

I can’t find the verse at the moment, but, as I recall, Jewish priests were restricted to marrying only Levites.

The visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich are not trustworthy. One of her visions says that there are pagans, Jews, and Protestants in Purgatory, which is contrary to the Catholic Faith and Church Dogma.

According the “Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew”, it says of St. Joachim, “And at the age of twenty he took to wife Anna, the daughter of Achar, of his own tribe, that is, of the tribe of Judah, of the family of David. And though they had lived together for twenty years, he had by her neither sons nor daughters.”

Anne Catherine Emmerich was beatified by Pope John Paul II.

Second Vatican Council taught that non-Catholics and non-Christians can be saved.

Although private revelation to a Blessed is fallible, since the Blessed may have misunderstood, certainly this is more reliable than a pseudo-gospel.

Not just Levites, but, more specifically, descendants of Aaron, and Sacred Scripture specifically says that Elizabeth was a “daughter of Aaron” (Luke 1:5).
