Was that God, or is my imagination running wild?

I thought it would be nice of people wrote about the times in their life when God has somehow spoken to them. Please do not respond by any negative comments to what people write, since it is their spiritual life.
I have two items I would like to write about.

I agree with the following poster, this is a great thread! 👍 I had an experience about a month or month and a half ago that I’m still not sure what to make of.
I was upset about a thread I’d been following on another board, one that I mentioned on CAF, about the Church and animals. I was really upset and started to question the Church. I went to Mass and was getting more worked up by the minute, thinking about some things people had said in the thread and at the same time loving my church and not wanting to leave it. I often feel very lucky to have been born into the Church and I think I feel even more appreciation for it after being away for so many years.

Anyway, I went to Holy Communion and it was either just prior to receiving or just after when I remembered a thread here where someone asked if posters ever felt something physical after receiving. As I was walking to my pew or just after kneeling down, I started to feel a warm sensation where the Host was touching my tongue (I don’t chew, I allow the Host to dissolve). I moved the Host to the left side of my mouth where it came into contact with the inside of my left cheek and I felt the same thing.
It didn’t feel really warm like warm in temperature, just a warm sensation, would be the best way to describe it. Normally it doesn’t feel warm or cool.
It also felt a little tingly, though that isn’t a good description, either. More like it felt like it had energy or something. Again, not a strong sensation, it was mild.

I thought that maybe my tongue was sensitive due to eating something crunchy or spicy earlier that day or the night before since it does get sensitive at times. I thought that maybe it was my imagination because I’d read about this subject here. I thought that maybe I felt the Lord in the Eucharist. I thought that maybe God was trying to give me a sign that the Church is the place for me and that He is present in the Eucharist, by making me THINK I felt something.

When this was happening I was kneeling and looked around at all the people who were walking back to their pews or had just gotten back to their pews, to see if they had a strange look on their faces, if they felt something different but everybody looked like they always do.
I really don’t know what it was I felt but whatever it was, it definitely got my attention.

Another unusual thing about this was that I’m quite a talker and whenever something neat or unusual happens I love to tell my family and friends, especially my husband. When this happened, I didn’t want to tell anyone for almost a day.
I wanted to keep it to myself, to think about it and keep it special. Also, I didn’t want anyone to think I was imagining things.
I posted about it to a priest on another board and only after that, was I ready to tell my husband, (who’s not Catholic, btw) about the experience.
I told my husband the next afternoon but other than discussing it briefly on that other board and email with someone from that board I haven’t told anyone else.

It was a hot summer’s day here in Australia - November 24 1997 to be exact. I was at a country town about an hours drive from a regional capital. I started feeling sick - dizzy, throwing up, blurred vision. I decided to drive back to the regional capital’s hospital.

Here’s the funny thing: Blurred vision, yet I managed to drive for an hour. The town I was aiming for I had never been to - yet I drove directly to the hospital. I was dizzy and staggering - incapable of reading the signs showing the way. I was able to park the car in the crowed carpark and not hit anything.

I staggered into the ER and the first doc who saw me was on his residency - not yet branched into a speciality. Yet, he told me later that just the evening previous he’d been reading his textbooks on more obscure illnesses and I turned up presenting those exact same symptoms.

Turns out I had Cushing’s Disease - a tumor on the pituitary gland. It was sufficiently serious that I had it removed that Christmas eve.

I hope you’re well now!

After a long “journey through the underworld” let’s call it, when I turned back to God and Jesus, one of my first trips back to church was at Christmas – it may have even been a midnght service on Christmas Eve. As I was coming out it was, of course, very dark and my sister and I looked up and we saw a shooting star.

Now many of you may say, “big deal” I see them all the time (and if so you are lucky as they are pretty cool), but this is in Los Angeles! You can’t even see the non-shooting stars here! 🙂

Further more, and this might sound strange, but it sometimes seems that when I reflect on this experience I almost seem to recall seeing a flash of light at a lower level and can only ascribe this to the presence of an angel at that experience that perhaps helped me go “all the way” and make it back and this angel was returning to heaven. This angel should get some kind of medal for brinign me back.

Today, I went for Transitus of St. Francis in my church. For some reason, I was feeling rather depressed and almost cried. I had so much negative feeling inside that I didn’t know the cause. I closed my eyes, and suddenly there was an image in my mind; I was sitting and my hands radiating green light. Then I realised that I was envy! (green = envy)

It’s been awhile since I felt like this. Prayers are very much appreciated.

I’ve had several experiences, none as dramatic as I’ve read here.

When my three oldest kids were toddlers, I was feeling very bored and restless and trapped with being a SAHM. One day, I was sitting on the deck watching them run around and feeling sorry for myself. I thought, “what about that important work you had for me, God?”

I was shocked to “hear” internally, “You’re lookin’ at it.”

I realized that my mission had nothing to do with some work in the world. My work is rearing my kids. It was a profound moment for a young mom raised to see motherhood as a second class job.

That’s neat, Ieonie. I wish more people would appreciate and value motherhood and SAHM’s.

I suggest you talk to your spiritual director, if you have one, and if you have not discussed with him yet.

Also, in your own prayer, ask the Holy Spirit to help you dealing with this issue…

A prayer has just been said for you. The prayer intentions of people on Catholic forum are in my prayers. God bless!

Guess my prayer has been answered! My third post in this thread. I was kinda restless so I went to church early for evening mass and spent sometime in the adoration chapel. Took the bible and read whatever it was. It was Matt 11:25-30, “Come to me and Rest.”

verse 28 touched me deeply; “come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.” It’s not the end of the story.

During mass, it was the gospel reading for today!
Was it a message from God? I don’t know.
Went home and looked for today’s reading online. But it wasn’t today’s gospel!
Today’s gospel is Luke 9:57-62.

I still thought it was my imagination, but I was lucky to record the Liturgy of the Word, and I am right! The priest read Matthew 11:25-30. (I can give you the file if you want). 😛

Could it be a mistake? I don’t know, all I know is that I think it is a message from God. I’m amazed.
Will ask my parish priest tomorrow. 😉

This actually happened just 2 Sundays ago. I was in Burbank Calif visiting my nephew and I got up early to attend mass. It was around 7:20 and I figured I could make the 7:30 or 8 o’clock mass at the local Catholic Church.

I drove around for quite awhile and found every type of church except a Catholic church. I hit all the major roads for miles in either direction or what I thought were major roads and still no church. I was about to give up and said to myself, I’ve looked for 40 minutes almost the time it takes for a full mass, if I don’t find one in the next five minutes, I will call it a day.

Just as I was about to turn around I came up on a Catholic church. The name of the Church was ST. Jane De Chantal, the same name as my home parish 3600 miles away !!!

It was a hispanic parish and I didn’t recognize anyone but I never felt more at home in any other church.

God does speak to us if we carefully listen. He speaks to us through His Word, through other people, through nature, through circumstances, through the still small voice deep in our hearts, through our intuition, and through sudden realization misteriously came to us…

Trust in Jesus. Peace!
