Was the Easter Sequence Sung in Your Parish in Latin or the Vernacular?
 
Vernacular, which is fine. It adds a lot to most of us who would miss the message if it were in Latin. I love that prayer. Every year since I was in high school I listen for “O happy fault, O necessary sin of Adam, Which gained for us so great a Redeemer!” and marvel at the magnificence of God!
 
Neither. Somebody did an OOPS! Nobody read it, not Father or the Lectors. At least this was the case at the 4:15PM LifeTeen Mass. And no, it’s not of it being a LifeTeen Mass. It has been done in years past. I think one year I even did it.
 
It was chanted in Latin at St. Patricks Cathedral NY , one of the best Masses I’ve attended so far

In one of the posts, someone mentiond the felix culpa. This actually is found in the exultet, which in my parish, proved to be one of the most disappointing parts of the Easter Vigil.

The exultet is the Church’s great prayer of Easter. Yet, OCP, in its infinite wisdom, sought to adulterate this magnificent prayer and really water it down. The references to Father were deleted. The paraphrased exultet was chanted with drums. The setting was completely disjointed and it completely watered down the happy fault of Adam and the fact that we were sinners in need of redemption. I silently read the actual Exultet. At least I was able to hear it twice: once from the feed from the Papal Mass (in Latin) and the second time, in English, from the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception feed.
 
I had to suffer through a bilingual (English and Spanish) sung version. I wish they wouldn’t do a bilingual Mass for Easter Vigil but Father wants it and does it even though his Spanish is horrible (he refuses to practice it let alone perfect it). The cantor who sang it (she sang it last year as well) sings diva when she sings the Exsultet and the horrible transitions between English and Spanish and then her voice made it a horror to suffer through in a long list of bad things that occurred during the Vigil. The Easter Sequence this morning would not have been sung (my parish never sings any of the sequences for Easter, Pentacost, etc.). (Father even read the wrong Gospel and I wasn’t completely sure he hadn’t chosen his own version.)
 
Vernacular. The man who did it has been a part of the choir many years, and I’ve known him a LONG time. He sang an excellent English translation. 😃
 
I wasn’t at Mass yesterday but if it was like other years then no Sequence was sung or read in any language. It’s always bothered me that neither of the compulsory Sequences are ever done.
 
Vernacular but Accapella, no music accompanient. It was very soulful and beautiful.
 
English, to the traditional melody, sung very nicely. Then later I listened to the Latin version from the Vatican Mass, just because.

Benedictgal, I didn’t realize OCP trashed the Exultet, but I guess we shouldn’t be surprised by anything they do. Is there any part of the Catholic tradition they don’t trash if they get the chance?
 
Our priest sang the Easter Sequence in the vernacular, acapella - he has a very nice voice. :heaven:

Could have worse-at our Vigl our Pastor forgot the Gloria!
