Was the miracle of the loaves and fishes about generosity?

I am disturbed and confused. I have heard 2 priests suggest that the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes is merely the “miracle” of man’s generosity. Both priests suggested that perhaps, once the crowd saw how the young boy was sharing all he had, all the others pulled their food out from under their cloaks. Scripture says that Jesus “looked up to Heaven and gave thanks…” While I was not shocked that the first priest made this comment, as he is excessively liberal in his practice as a priest, the second is not afraid to teach us what the Church teaches, especially in the area of morality. I admire him for his courage of his convictions. When he suggested this recently, I was upset. Anyone have any insight into this?
