It made little impact in science literature. You’re confusing popular science journalism with actual science. As I recall, there were one or two papers of little note published in the 1960s and 1970s, but it was Time magazine, as memory recollects, that made it a big deal.
Here’s a tip. Just because a claim makes the papers doesn’t make it a sound claim. The evidence for CO2 causing climate change had been gathering since at least the 1940s, and certainly it was predicted as far back as the late 19th century that CO2, once its properties were fully understood, could, if it accumulated in the atmosphere in larger quantities, could increase the amount of solar radiation being absorbed.
