Was this a sacrilege?

While distributing communion at a hospital, the large pic with the hosts fell on the floor, opened and scattered them at my feet. It was an accident. Were the hosts desecrated?

I made sure to pick them all up and put them back in the pic, which was then returned to the tabernacle. Would the real presence still have remained in these hosts?

Was that a sacrilege due on my part - even though it was an awful accident which I will never forget.
 
Dear friend,

It was an accident; there was no sacrilege. The fact that the hosts were scattered would have no affect of the Real Presence. By the way, the container is called a pyx (pronounced, pix).
