Hello all,

This is my first post so I apologize if it is not in the right place. So I went to confession and I had a list of sins I was going to say. But I was thrown off when the priest asked what I wanted to improve in my life. So I just said one of my sins that I was having a hard time with. So he gives me advice and encouragement but then he jumps straight to the absolution. And I didn’t want to interrupt so I didn’t say anything. I was a little confused

I guess that I’m confident that God forgave me because I went to confession with the intent confess all my sins, and I received absolution. But I was wondering, is this a valid confession? Am I forgiven of the sins (I think they were mortal)? Like I said I didn’t get to tell him all of them. In fact only one

It was valid, as you intended to confess all your sins. You have been absolved for all of them. However, you must confess the remaining mortal sins next time.

Thank you both for your replies. The article was especially helpful.

Yes, your confession was valid and you were absolved of ALL of your sins. But like the above poster stated, just tell your priest your mortal sin(s) at your next confession. This has happened to me before but not the exact scenario you stated. I either remembered a previous mortal sin or I forgot a mortal sin in the confessional that I later recalled. If you do not intentionally omit the mortal sin, it is forgiven.
