Was this an invalid confession?

The priest hearing my confession dispensed with the form and cut me off before I had finished telling him my sins. He also advised me to read Teillard de Chardin, whom I understood propogated both fraud and heresy. He just said, “I absolve you from all your sins” and did not ask for an act of contrition. He gave me no penance. I felt as if I had not been to confession at all. What do you think?

If the priest did not absolve you using the Trinitarian formula, “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” then you need to go to Confession again—to another priest.
