Was This an Oath?

Well I was reading Voices of the Saints by Bert Ghezzi. After each short biography, there’s usually something that pertains or is about the saint such as a phrase or commentary.

I was reading the bio of St. Anthony Mary Claret and decided to offer his short excerpt as a prayer before actually reading what it said, well here’s what it said:

" O my God, I give you my word that I shall preach, write and circulate good books and pamphlets in abundance, so as to drown evil in a flood of good."

would I have said an oath???

No Although oaths can be promises, that is a promise, but not an oath; it’s a vigorously-expressed promise, but even so, it’s not an oath​

Yep. Can’t wait to see your first book come out LOL, just kidding! I would suggest not praying that particular prayer unless you mean it. Would you pray the Hail Mary if you didn’t believe she is the Mother of God?
