My wife gets mad at me sometimes for being a sarcastic jerk. When we were at the grocery store last night, we couldn’t find the grape juice. I said “They have to have grape juice! What are the Baptists going to use at communion?”

😃

No offense to Baptists. I was raised Baptist and still attend the church every now and then. I have respect for you guys 🙂

I chuckled, but then I have it on rather good authority that I am a bit of a jerk myself.

Sorry, I have the same sense of humor, so if you’re wrong, so am I, I thought it was funny.

Dahhhh, yea… but I’d have said the same thing after my wife did. Only replace Baptist with our former faith Church of Christ.

I think she was more embarrassed than anything else.
I think that this is enough to convince you not to make the joke again – because it is upsetting her, and you don’t make anyone feel better by this joke; thus, it would be uncharitable to make this joke. … this is my thought but I know everyone has his own opinion. 🙂

Yes and no;)
I have to admit I laughed when I read it, but on the other hand if you went to a liquor store and there was no wine, and someone made that joke, would you find it funny:shrug:

Next time you pass the Church and see cars on Saturday, ask them what time confession is.😃 😉

Just thump me on the head.

My wife would have laughed. She likes my uncharitiability. 😛 That’s why we’re married despite all the yellow cards (and the occasional reds) that I get on here for my total lack of fluffiness.

I voted for “funny”… but there is no such option.

Sounds like something my DH would say actually. I didn’t vote - I thought it was marginally funny, but I would have poked him on the arm and told him to shush, while laughing myself. 😉

I just wish I had thought of it…we were at an easter egg hunt last Saturday. A lady had trays of cookies, and my son couldn’t decide what he wanted…the lady was Church of Christ, and she makes snide remarks about catholics, so I told my son that they were Church of Christ cookies so they all tasted the same.

This same lady played Sister Julia Child of God in Nunsense some time ago, so all is fair 😛

thanks, Richie

I thought it was funny.

I think it’d be uncharitable only if you were saying it with the intent to offend any Baptists within earshot, but that didn’t seem to be your intent. 🙂

I am shocked, shocked by this admission! I simply cannot believe it! 😉 😛

I thought it was pretty funny, something I would say. As a former Baptist (back before I became an atheist), I do not see this as uncharitable in the least.

I think it’s funny as well, but I know it’s not nice. I made a similar comment when we were driving by a local church (I think it’s either Baptist or a non-denom). Anyway, they had a big sign out in front that said “Auction”. My wife said, " I wonder what they’re auctioning". I replied, “Probably salvation.”:o

Me and my mouth…

I have to admit to having a chuckle at the Baptist’s expense too. But I’m sometimes known for my irreverent sense of humor. Just last week a friend who thinks Catholicism is “a cult” made a crack about Catholics “lining up for the purple Kool-Aid” every Sunday. I laughed at that too.

“But that church down the road says they have it for free…”

“…Really? Shoot. I put it all on my credit card. I’ll need to call that guy on the cross for debt relief.”

Good ole’ church sign theology

Hopefully your friend didn’t get the idea from those “clown masses” that serve kool-laid and cookies at communion.

It was uncharitable to your wife because you embarrassed her in public.

It sounds like something I’d say. Then again I once told another Catholic who was consuming an alcoholic drink to make sure he drinks enough in case anyone thinks he’s Protestant, and I also have been known to refer to Anglicans as ‘Diet Catholics’ (which my Priest told me not to say but then added that it was because they not only lacked the sugar but also the fizz and the flavour) so anything I’d say is not necessarily a good thing
