Was this communion song OK?

In a recent mass at my church, the second Communion song was something I used to sing as a child in a protestant (Baptist) church. It was written by an Anglican priest in the 17th century.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.

We recently lost our choir director and we have had visiting musicians lately. I was just wondering if this was liturgically correct for a Catholic Mass. There’s nothing wrong with the words of course. It just felt odd to be signing something that was very prevelant in my Protestant upbringing.

Yes, such hymns are OK as long as the theology is consistent with Catholic theology. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal permits suitable music that has been “approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops or the diocesan Bishop.”
