Well I heard about that, but I don’t know if it’s accurate. I should have included this beforehand.

That statement you quoted had a different purpose.

CCC#1450 "Penance requires . . . the sinner to endure all things willingly, be contrite of heart, confess with the lips, and practice complete humility and fruitful satisfaction."49

49 Roman Catechism II,V,21; cf. Council of Trent (1551): DS 1673 :-
Catechism of the Council of Trent #184 parts of penance (The sacrament was called penance back then) " Penance," says St. Chrysostome,
" induces the sinner cheerfully to undergo every rigour ; his
heart is pierced with contrition ; his lips utter the confession of
his guilt ; and his actions breathe humility, and are accepted by
God as a satisfaction." 1 These component parts of penance are
such as we say are necessary to constitute a whole."(Bold emphasis is mine).
It also comes from Denzinger 1673 " 1673 Dz 896 Furthermore, the holy Council teaches that the form of the sacrament of penance, in which its force chiefly consists, is set down in these words of the minister: “I absolve thee, etc.”; to which indeed certain prayers are laudably added according to the custom of holy Church; yet in no way do they pertain to the essence of this form, nor are they necessary for the administration of the sacrament. The matter, as it were, of this sacrament, on the other hand, consists in the acts of the penitent himself, namely contrition, confession, and satisfaction [can. 4]. These, inasmuch as by the institution of God they are required in the penitent for the integrity of the sacrament for the full and perfect remission of sins, are for this reason called the parts of penance." (Bold emphasis are mine).

As others have noted, if one is mute, then as far as I understand it in those circumstances written confession is permitted. But the priest would have to read at least one sin . But the OP situation was within the normal way of confession.

We’re to confess verbally, but the Church (nor God) will bind us to the impossible. If one cannot speak at all, there are then exceptions can be made. Writing may be an option; using an interpreter (of sign language) is an option.

And as for “random persons” this should be a lesson to the OP, as to any other scrupulous, that asking questions here is a bad idea. But now that she has opened that can of worms, the truth, whether from “random strangers” or from a priest is still the truth. In this case, she has it, painful as it may be. She was cheated by that priest, but now hse has the knowledge to rectify it. And “assuming it’s valid” is not the next step. Going to valid confession is.
how is this a lesson? why asking things here is bad?
so you think it is better not to ask anything? It is better to stay ignorant?

For the scrupulous its best to stick with a trusted confessor and not a public forum where all sorts of personalities exist with differing levels of knowledge and opinions.

so in this case I should have not doubted that this confession was valid?

If you doubted you should have asked your own priest. But that said you were fortunate to have a priest here who gave you the correct answer but you just as well got wrong and conflicting answers. Who then would you have believed? That does not help you. This is a discussion forum but is not the best place for spiritual advice and more so if you’re scrupulous which I think you are.
