During Mass I got a really bad uncharitable intrusive thought in my head. I didn’t want it and it just invaded and said ‘Wow, so and so is so thick’. I was shouting in my head go away all through the Mass and took Communion. Please tell me this wasn’t a mortal sin. I had terrible guilt from the thought. Normally when I get a very bad intrusive thought I get feeling of repentence but I didn’t get a repentent feeling this time. I know faith isn’t about feelings but I still feel very bad.

It is not a sin to think other people are acting stupidly, if in fact, they are acting stupidly or thick!

At the Fair yesterday, several times I was walking along the straight street when people completely oblivious to me would cut directly in front of me, one nearly stepping on my foot, to cross the street. In my head, I called them many names! Oblivious, unobservant, and inconsiderate among them.

We do not get only saintly thoughts in our heads. We get also very naughty ones and the ones you had were nothing at all, just simple observation.

Thoughts are not sin. Will may make them good or bad.
And you did not want to dwell on them.

Everything is OK.

I found Catholic 90’s comments very interesting a/c the “older” I get (and I’m really old) the less I can understand what people do and why they do it??? I get on the street car and someone comes in, sees a whole bunch of newspaperss and throws them on the floor instead of putting them on a vacant seat. When I’m in Church a parishioner comes in – sees all kinds of empty seats – and then goes into a pew with a whole family in it and “crawls” over them to a vacant seat???

If you got to the point where you didn’t care, you might have a problem.
If it is any consolation, it happens to many. It makes you feel bad no matter how many
times you tell youself you didn’t want it. It still feels bad because it makes a person
think that they are some kind of spiritual monster. “here I am receiving and having all these … thoughts. wow what kind of a person must Jesus think I am.”

“Any tempest which assails us and which we did not bring on ourselves through any fault of ours, foretells a consolation soon to follow it.” St. Ignatius of Loyola
