This can be general or specific regarding the legitimacy (or not) of a Sacrament. For example, I went to confession today (face-to-face confession), and the priest did not start by saying, “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” First words out of his mouth were, “What would you like to confess?” So… I didn’t bother to say, “Forgive me Father, for I have sinned,” which seemed strange to me, but what the heck? So then after I confessed, at least he gave me the option to make an act of contrition, although he opted out of a couple other usual phrases. I’m wondering, was this a legitimate Sacrament, or complete ********? Please enlighten me, if you’re able. Thanks.
