Was this the right thing to do?

I was not sure where else to put this, but I have a concern over whether I did the right thing or not in this situation.

I was on my evening walk, and I saw a couple, never seen them before, seemed like they were up to something, but I just kept walking past them on the street as I normally do most people. On my way home, i cut through he forest and there are famillies with kids and other people with thier dogs etc.

Off the main path I heard talking and to sum it up I saw thesame couple engaging in “unchaste acts”. I realized an kept walking got home and called the nom-emergency police number. I realized the police couldnt really do anythig simce it was late and the park was fairly large and forrested. It was obviously Illegal, they wre near my neighbors houses and children / famillies.

Was it okay for me to do this and call on them? I dared not say anything myaelf. I feel guilty about this, like i committed a sin. (Scrupulous). Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, I think you did the right thing. At my late parent’s home, they were away one weekend and then came back to yellow police tape in their back yard because while they were away, an 11 year old girl was pulled aside and raped under the pine trees in the back. Maybe you assumed this was consenual but what if this was a rape of some sort and your call to the police would stop it. I think it might have been better to call 911 instead of the non-emergency number but stuff like in areas like parks etc might not be so consenual. And if there were more people that stop and call, maybe rapers and perverts will be caught and someone’s life will be saved.

In that case, wouldn’t it be more helpful to yell from a distance, “Is everything all right?” and then call 911 if there is any sign that all is not well.

yes, that is a good point. Op stated that they went back home to call but I think you are right, yelling and distracting the activity then calling 911 right then and there would be much better and quicker.

Well, I think “unchaste” is a presumption. My wife and I have been quite, ahem, adventurous if you know what I mean. I think the fact that it is a park is troubling though. If the couple has taken reasonable steps to conceal their activities then I would just scurry on out of there.

I can see where one would be concerned though. I would have been mortified if we had ever really been caught. But that is part of the whole idea isn’t it? Some places have that reputation. A “lookout” point, or seclusion in the woods etc.
