Washington Lieutenant Gov. Cyrus Habib is leaving his office and politics to become a Jesuit priest.
Habib, a Democrat, was presiding over the Washington State Senate a week ago, effortlessly running the upper chamber even though he is blind.
In an article for the Jesuit magazine America, Habib acknowledged some will be surprised he is giving up “a life of authority for one of obedience.”
