Can someone advises whether a Catholic could watch “Desperate Housewives” as it does have a lot of seduction in the program.
Thanks.

Doesn’t the title itself kind of insult the sanctity of Marriage?

From what I’ve seen of the show just in the previews, I really suggest that everyone stay away from that show. it is very upsetting to me that people actually think it’s funny to make fun of infidelity and sin. That show seems to be trying to “shrug off” adultery and portray it as not-**that **-big-a-deal. (Retreats deeper into seat grumbling…)

I’ve watched it…it’s not that bad. It does not seem to make sins out to be no big deal, but actually illustrates the consequences that come from sin. It seems to be a good portrayal of life…not ideal life, real life.

Is it the best way to spend your time? Depends on how the rest of your day is spent. Is it ok to watch? Sure. As long as it does not become an obesession.

Everyone has their own taste in entertainment. It is nor forbidden for a Catholic to watch anything specific (well, besides porn…)

Use your own judgement. If you want to see what it’s about, watch it. If you don’t like it, you don’t ever have to watch it again. If you like it, but you find it is leading you to sin, then stop.

We are all grown ups (and I am assuming that we are and that nobody is advocating that their children should watch certain shows) and we can make up our own minds about what to do with our time.

I’ve seen the show a handful of times, and I must say I was actually impressed with its presentation of infidelity and poor behavior. It doesn’t glamourize it at all, and in fact seems to primarily be about the consequences of such behavior (infidelity, prescription drug abuse, petty gossip) and how it affects everyone around you.

It’s portrayed in a fashion that is dramatized, but rather real. It in no way glorifies the lifestyles of these people, and shows that even when things are “going well” for them, things aren’t so great.

You could, but would you really want to?

I don’t have a TV or watch it anymore.
Yet, from those whom I trust in their understanding and judgment, I wouldn’t bother wathing that program …and many others.

Unless you REALLY are strong with your Catholic/Christian faith and feel you can’t be influenced by it, then watch it.

Let me put it this way, would you feel comfortable watching it with Jesus in the room?

I’m hooked on watching it, but I haven’t seen anything that I would emulate in my life.

This show concentrates into one hour what many other shows take much longer to act out.

The empty morality is obvious, but what would be the worst outcome is for anyone to model their life on anything depicted in the show.

I’m getting real tired of the great number of commercials that have infected popular television programs. I haven’t counted, but I bet there are 30 or more pitches during that broadcast. I usually prefer to watch anything on non-commercial television.
