It was both, for crying out loud. He excommunicated himself… which is virutally always the case… He was a heretic who taught false beliefs…

because he refused to compromise with biblical truth which the RC-church wanted to suppres.

God is not a merchant, from whom you can buy salvation if you have enough good deeds!

No Catholic says you can “buy” salvation, but as the Apostle James, says,“faith without works is dead.” We are saved by the grace of God alone, but we must cooperate with that grace or risk hellfire. If we’re committing murder or fornication several times a day, then God’s grace is not in us.

Luther had some valid criticisms of the Church of the day, but he was also a very proud man with a “my way or the highway” attitude. As Bishop Sheen wrote, “The Reformation reformed doctrine when it was morals that needed reforming,” And I disagree with your statement that the Church was “rotten to the core.” Luther decided to follow in the footsteps of Korah.

Yes, we are to be slaves to Christ, but we must obey our leaders (Hebrews 13:17). To reject them is to reject God’s authority and walk in the footsteps of Korah (Jude 1:11, Numbers 16).

That attitude is NO reason to stay out of the RC church.

Lutherans also say to calvinists and other semi-heretics on various subjects “We’re right, and you’re wrong”. Because TRUTH cannot be relative.

Truth is NOT relative. But here’s the rub: You call Calvinists and other groups semi-heretics, but what makes you so sure the Lutheran position is the correct one? Perhaps the Calvinist doctrine is correct, and YOU are the heretic? You appeal to Scripture for your doctrines, but so do the Calvinists and others who disagree with you? Who is the ultimate arbiter as to what Scripture really teaches?

i was just saying all that because some poster accused me of being hateful when i didn’t feel that i sounded hateful at all…
