Watching a Cradle Catholic wander away

I would make certain she truly understands the Eucharist. I have seen surveys showing that as many as 50% of Catholics don’t understand the true presence of Christ body blood soul and divinity in the Eucharist.

Anyone who truly understands the real presence could never leave the Church…but she may not understand it.

Try sending her Father Frank Chacon’s Begining Apologetics Volume Three. She may still feel the need to fellowship with her new friends but at the same time she may see the need to remain in the church.

Bishops and priests need to make their churches places where Catholics can learn the basics of the Catholic religion. They need to teach Catholics how to grow in their faith. And they need to make their churches places where Catholics can make friends with other Catholics.

In other words, until the bishops and priests make their churches places where Catholics can come for Christian fellowship, Catholics will continue to wander somewhere else. People go where their needs are being met.

if someone asked me what is the one thing judaisim and catholisim have in common i would say how cold they can act to other members of theier own faith. I’m not saying they look down on them or they dislike them or anything like that. I’m just saying they can get in their little groups and ignore (not on purpose) any new members or people who don’t belong in their little group

It makes me think of Esau when I see a cradle Catholic forsake their birthright for something that will make them feel good immediately (see Gen. 25:29-34) 😦

Hmmm, that’s not my experience. Every time I’ve gone to a new parish I’ve been welcomed with open arms. This usually doesn’t happen at Mass because people are their to worship and partake in the solemn Sacrafice of Our Lord, not to socialize. You gotta go to the “extra-curricular” activites. Although, I will say, people will very nice to me when I began attending the Tridentine Mass. They were very warm and welcoming making a point to talk to me before and after Mass 🙂

Hello all
Seriously I am on what seems a never ending quest to find my place in religion and church. I was a greeter which ended as did my attendance, I know I know but I tried to put my heart into it, it just didn’t grab me and I am not into doing things half-butted.

Anyways, so I went surfing on the net and came across this huge Christian church ( the thing takes up a block ) and saw all the groups they have. There is this one group called Impact 20 for Christians in their 20’s and early 30’s which meet every Wednesday night. Cool thing is that it is open to
ALL Christians no matter if you are Christian, Catholic, Lutheran, etc. Also you don’t need to
be a church member either. I decided to take the plunge and go, and let me tell you OMG it was awesome. Walking in and seeing others my age, girls AND guys on the same age level who believe in God. I walked in and said basically hi I am a new person. Right away they introduced me to other people and offered to sit with me in which I said sure.

They started off with music played by a band and words on
three screens, next there was a sermon by a pastor in his 20’s and boy did it talk to me. Then they talked about their mission to Ecuador and the person talking said how many people where Catholic by upbrining and not by choice, which got me thinking.

I am Catholic by baptism and how I was brought up. Am I Catholic though because I personally want to be or because I am comfortable with it because its all I know. Please note, this was not a hey lets convert catholics thing, it is my own personal questioning.

Anyways it was an awesome experience and I definitely want to go back on Wednesday nights. Seriously though, it was nice, no stoning the Catholic, no religious debates, none of that ****. So, I am a step forward to finding a belonging.”

So – help me out here. She lives half a nation away from me, but I cannot just sit on my hands… When I was her age, I was on my journey into the Catholic Church. I could use some advice here from some of you Cradle Catholics who may have had similar experiences…

Hi All
This isn’t heartbreaking, it’s heartawakening. The Holy Spirit is leading her closer to Christ. I’m not saying that the church she is talking about is closer to Christ than the Catholic church, but rather that she is walking closer to Christ. Most of the replys I’ve read, point to an US versus THEM attitude, which is the only thing sad in this story. I for one will be praying for her and her personal relationship with Christ.

Am currently seeking a smaller Catholic parish in the hopes it will be friendlier than my current parish so that I can make some Catholic friends. After spending 10 years in a parish where I have in fact been active in pro-life, Christ Renews His Parish, and even hosted the Renewal group’s Christmas party in my home without having a single friend in the parish after all this, it’s time to look elsewhere, seeing that the awesome pro-life pastor who provided excellent sermons for 9 of those 10 years has retired.

I have a Methodist friend and a Jehovah’s Witness friend. And interestingly enough, having just started a Japanese class up at the university, there’s a pagan who is now acting friendly towards me.

No, I will never give up Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist … I will always remain a steadfast Catholic. And I can still be active at pro-life events no matter which parish I’m a member of. That said, being intensely loyal to the Pope and the teachings of the Church, it makes me wonder why those hostile to my faith treat me better than those who share my faith.

The depth and beauty, and most especially the truth, that is found ONLY in the Catholic Church, far surpasses that of any mega church with its profane rock bands and screens, “cool” pastors, and feel-good sermons.

Exactly said! Somewhere along the line, people got the idea that they must be entertained at Church. I went to Mass last night and again this morning. I normally don’t go twice in a weekend, but my daughter was an altar server both times. Both times, I heard the same readings, basically the same Homily, and both times, my eyes fill with tears when I approach Jesus in the Blessed Eucharist. There is no entertainment possible on planet earth that could ever compete with that. And if anyone thinks there is, I pity what they are missing and they don’t even have a clue. Yes, I have a personal relationship with Jesus. So personal that He not only comes into my heart, but into my body, courtesy of a Catholic Priest, a true apostolic successor of the apostles. I get my entertainment and feel-good warm fuzzies quota after Mass at coffee and doghnuts or at a Parish fundraising party, or at Knights of Columbus event (I’m Third Degree) or even on TV. Never at Mass.
