English is not my native language, I apologize for any misspellings.

I bet most of you know Ellen and he amazing great cool funny…etc show. I LOVE watching her show and it helped me a lot many times in the past. I’m asking this question so if you said no I would stop watching her, but I’m just wondering.

Does watching Ellen’s show ( She a lesbian btw ) is against my Catholic faith ?

She’s a comedian and a show host that covers a wide variety of topics. If her show were strictly to promote her homosexual lifestyle and gay marriage, then it would be wrong to watch it unless it was for research or something. But as is, it is not sinful to watch her show. She is a wonderful woman. She’s kind, funny, and outspoken. She’s a sinner, just like the rest of us.

So, as long as you don’t agree with her on her stances on gay ‘marriage’ or that living a unchaste homosexual lifestyle is okay, then keep watching.

If you want to choose to stop watching Ellen because of her sinful lifestyle, you certainly can. But to be consistent, you would have to stop watching any program that includes someone who lives a lifestyle not in accordance with Catholic teaching. That would be just about everything.

As bzkoss236 said, if her show were all about promoting that lifestyle or if you were watching it specifically to show support for that lifestyle, that would be wrong.

I disagree with both of you. Just because it is impossible to boycott everything is no reason not to boycott the most “in-your-face” programs. The same comment I made about movies applies here as well: every ticket sold is a vote for more of the same. Even if most of her subjects are not against Catholic teaching, her presence on TV lends tremendous credibility to her other positions that are. Take a look at the cartoon below that I clipped from my parish’s Sunday bulletin. It illustrates my point.

Sure. People can boycott whatever they wish for whatever reason they wish.

I haven’t watched much of Ellen’s show, but what I have seen doesn’t really come across as “in-your-face”. From the little I’ve seen, I’ve never seen her bring up homosexuality at all.

I could be wrong, but it seems the main issue people have with her is that she is a well known lesbian. I see very little criticism of her that involves pointing out things she has said or done publicly on her show.

I understand the concern over people becoming “attached” to TV personalities and thereby giving more credence to their belief system, even if they are not overt about it. If a person has that type of personality where they are easily swayed, they would do well to avoid most all forms of entertainment.

I don’t disagree with you entirely. But the OP asked if watching Ellen’s show was against the Catholic faith. I think that would be too strong of a way to put it. As you pointed out, there can be prudential considerations for why a person would choose to avoid it. But to say that simply watching it at all is against the Catholic faith implies that it is inherently wrong for anyone and everyone to ever watch her show (and consequently any show that stars a person with beliefs that run contrary to the Catholic faith). I don’t think that’s accurate.

Her old sit-com was canceled as she was using it as a venue to promote her gay lifestyle. I think Ellen learned a lot from that experience. Her sponsorship of JC Penny nearly ran them in to the ground. Not too sure how her cover girl products are doing either! If she sticks to entertainment, she’s funny. When she veers off into her personal agenda - not so much.

To be fair, I think JC Penny’s financial problems have far more to do with their new pricing strategy than choosing Ellen as spokeswoman. 😉

Thanks for the answer.

I don’t find Ellen as “in-your-face” thing. I respect her and I love her and I love watching her, I wanted to make sure what is the catholic’s view about it but I have no intention to change my view too, I’m human being and I have the right to stuck with it. I’m not just going to say, Yes, yes, yes, yes, you’re right…etc. Nope, I’m not that kind of a guy.

Thank you again for the answers.

Her sitcom was canceled to low ratings – only the last season was used to promote her homosexual lifestyle. She really isn’t very funny rgardless of whether she veers of into personal agenda or not.

I find her funny, and its usually because its not dirty and its not political and it doesn’t ridicule people. I’ve watched her talk show, and I would say if you didn’t know her sexual orientation before hand, you probably wouldn’t know it by watching her show. I like that she finds humor in the most mundane circumstances, that’s why I find her funny.

I can’t watch much daytime TV but I like her show better than most. She doesn’t use it all the time to promote her lifestyle. I admit I wondered the same question as the original poster. Then I thought that MANY shows are hosted by someone living with a person out side of marriage or been married many times. Other hosts have been open about their opinions that are way out of line of the Church.(pro-abortion or contraception especially)

I say support Catholic TV as much as you can but I wouldn’t watch it all day(If I had Cable) I don’t see it wrong to watch her (and certainly pray for her when you do)

Maybe Ellen has different opinions and lives differently than us but she is still God’s child. God made every human being, knowing they were gonna sin so that’s why Jesus Christ in His un-ending Mercy died for us. I’m not saying sins are good - sins are bad, but that Jesus’ Mercy is amazing.

Actually, doesn’t Ellen do a lot to help people? Wasn’t there shows during and near Christmas time where she gave presents and helped people?

I get what you’re all saying, and people’s opinions and something similar to this is on my mind too. Maybe we should love everyone and have mercy for everyone. Even if their ideas are different. God loves everyone, shouldn’t we? We’re all sinners, we can’t throw stones. This statement is more about loving Ellen as she is our neighbour, rather than me saying to watch the show.

But I do have a question myself. Would it be bad to promote Irish singers to appear on her show? I used to a while back and didn’t think bad of it but I’ve gotten scrupulous since then. I made an online account promoting them to appear on the show and get noticed. I havent used this in a long time but I’m wondering is it a sin to have and should I delete it?

God Bless

Haven’t read all the posts so hope I’m not being repetitive.

I haven’t watched her show – I’m not even sure it’s on in my area because I’m at work when it’s on. I’ve seen a few clips, though, and I have to say I liked her interview style. She came across as very interested in what her guests had to say which is a lot more than I can say for some other talk show hosts who seem to want to hear themselves speak as opposed to their guests.

If she was promoting her lifestyle, I would not watch it; but I find nothing inherently objectionable to her show.
