MMA, including UFC, has been discussed a few times here over the last 5 years, but I was hoping for more discussion. Over the last 4 years, I have made significant improvements to my popular media viewing habits. Frankly, I used to view a lot of objectionable, popular media content. My habits could still be improved considerably, and I am considering elimination of MMA, mostly UFC fights, from my popular media viewing. I can point to 3 facets of the sport that trouble me: violence and risk of injury; the ridiculous drama, horrible behavior, and trash talk outside the fights; and immodesty, especially the “ring girls”.

Are you or have you been a watcher or fan? Is it sinful to watch this programming? Any other comments you have to promote solid discussion are appreciated. Thank you.

Just don’t stare at the ring girls! I change channels between rounds. Combat type sports are the only sports I will watch. I HATE basketball, football etc.

Im a guy in my early 40s and I honestly dont get why this is so popular, Ive watched it before and dont find it that interesting, I have never followed any mainstream sports, we all grew up in a house where both parents didnt care about sports, so none of ever watched or talked about them, although I did race BMX for a few years in my teenage years, never played any other sports though.

The times I have seen UFC fights, it seems like all the fighters are tiny little guys, heavyweight boxing used to be the top sport of its kind, but today, it seems like the smaller guys are more prevalent.

seems you provided the answer to your lack of enthusiasm for sports. That’s not a bad thing, it just is. I can’t watch baseball, its pretty boring imho, but then we didn’t watch baseball in my parents home either. I can tolerate some golf every now and then on the tube because it was on the tube frequently when I was younger (that and boxing).

I remember my dad would always ask why anyone would get excited about watching a bunch of millionaires chase a little ball around a field? LOL He also used to say whether a particular team wins or looses, it has absolutely no effect on my life at all.He thought most people only got into sports to really show their love/support for the city they live in or grew up in.

I dont really agree with that, I think many people (especially people my age or older), live vicariously thru watching sports, in reality, they would like to be playing the sport instead of watching it, but for whatever reasons, they cannot, only option is to be a spectator.

As I mentioned, I raced BMX, which is odd, because neither parent ever did, none of my siblings were interested in this, Its just something I enjoyed and found I was pretty good at it, However that time in my life was rough, my mom died due to a drug overdose when I was 14, she used to be the one taking me to the races, towing the trailer, buying me parts, uniform, fees, etc. Not long after she died, I became more interested in chasing girls and partying with friends than racing, I sold my bike and all the gear 6 months afterwards. I wish I had stuck with it, I think I could have gotten factory sponsorship if I had applied myself, but it is what it is.
