Sweetie, you sound like a very dear person who is doing his/her best to deal with a very complicated situation. I’m begging you to get some counseling while you’re still young and have your life before you.

I had a very similar situation and I waited far too long to finally deal with it in depth. It did me a world of good but I wish I had done it 30 years sooner.

Ask your priest or doctor for a referral and if the first therapist you see isn’t a good fit, keep searching till you find one.

I feel for you. My parents split up too. One bit of advice that worked for me is this. I was always hearing one parent bad mouth the other to me and then I started interrupting with “You picked him/her, I didn’t have any say in it, so leave me out of this”. Sometimes, it made them angry, sometimes it made them laugh. But it didn’t take long before they knew the response they would get and stopped dragging me into it.
