Thank you!!
We are prayer for the Raven’s player that was hurt!! I hope he will be all right. At the end of the day it’s just a game and we don’t want anyone to be hurt!!!
Yes, that was so sad to see that. It is an awfully rough sport. I think it was purely adrenaline that collided the two…not intentional. But, still. I hope he will be okay. The reports in said he was talking, moving his arms and legs, etc…but he has a lot of neck pain. I worry about these things with my son who plays for varsity now. 😦 Prayers going out to him for sure!

not one call went the Ravens way.
I can think of two. One was the unnecessary roughness, after the Ravens player pushed the Steelers player around, the Steeler pushed back. Guess he was supposed to just take it.

There was also a pass interference that could have gone both ways, but went the Ravens way.

When you lose, it is sometimes hard to see it from the other side.

the steelers player that pushed back got caught.
the interference call was a good clean call (imho)

Well, we’re in mourning here as I’m a Lancaster PA transplant and Phila fan:( . At least I’ll have ONE PA team in the Super Bowl to root for. Someday someone will tell Andy Reid and the Eagles that football games are actually 60 MINUTES LONG and it’s customary to play the whole thing!!!😦 !!!

Part of the problem was that the Steelers head coach wasn’t nitpicking the plays, like the Ravens coach was…which really, he should have spoken up on the push the player gave to Ben, for example, AFTER Ben threw the ball. That should have been a penalty. There was also a push offsides, after the play was over, by the Ravens, and it was not called. But, the Ravens coach had a good eye, to make sure he got every single penalty. Even ones that were bogus. 👍

Truthfully, they are both great teams…pretty equally matched. I don’t believe Steelers did their best nor did the Ravens.

We were actually hoping that the SB would be dominated by PA–that would have been pretty cool, considering I live in Tampa Bay now (we used to live in PA) and the SB is being held here!:o

who cares… i’m sick of supporting these overpaid pro athletes.

why not go out and play football with your friends or family instead of wasting time in front of the boob-tube.

Well, it’s only on once per week…and for a short time. Plus, my son plays sports, and we are active with him…my dh and I are pretty active. I wouldn’t judge others if you don’t know them.

Your buffet sound delish! Too bad we don’t live closer, we could combine the two & REALLY fatten up;) ! Now my husband is going to be envious because his fav cake is Ice Cream cake! I love your steeler terrible towel smiley! I have to get D.D. to show me how to do that. Well, gotta go put on my game face, we’re leaving in an hour. GO STEELERS!!!:knight2: :gopray2: :slapfight:
Hi Lucania–yay–they won!
I ate too much though:( --will need to workout a little harder this week. 😛 Hope you had a fun night!!

Here we go. Steelers. Here we go! Pittsburgh’s goin’ to the Superbowl! Here we go!
:extrahappy: :dancing: :clapping: :bounce:

Both of the championship games were nail biters! I was hoping for a total PA superbowl myself, however, since it’s a slim possibility lose the SB, I’d rather see AZ win than Philadelphia.

We watched with the kids. It was a lot of fun!

a quick update on Willis McGahee (player carted off the feild) The research is from todays edition of the Baltimore Sun. “McGahee, who missed most of training camp after knee surgery and had a slow start to the regular season, was resting at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital last night with movement in all his limbs and was “neurologically intact,” a team spokesman said. McGahee was taken off on a stretcher with 3:29 remaining in his team’s 23-14 AFC championship loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field. Team doctor Leigh Ann Curl was staying in Pittsburgh with McGahee” Prayers are answered

Oh, well. 😦 😦 😦 😦

I’m bombing here, folks!! First my presidential candidate, and now my football team… as Lucy Ricardo would say, "WAAAAAAHH!!! :bighanky:

Well, the figure skating national championships start today, and I at least hope that my favorite figure skaters will win Gold in Cleveland! YES, yes!!!

www.usfsa.org

Senior Ladies: Alexe Gilles (a long shot, because she’s just tested up to Seniors, but she’s won or medalled at all her international competitions, and she can definitely do the jumps and other elements, and has nerves of steel.)

Senior Men: Brandon Mroz–I know, I know, Johnny Weir and Evan Lysacek are supposed to be the top two, but I am hoping for an upset and some new and extremely friendly and deseriving blood in the men’s division.

Senior Pairs: ROCKNE AND KEAUNA!!!

Senior Dance: Jane Summersett and Todd Gilles–again, a long shot, but with Ben and Tanith out of the competition due to injury, an upstart couple has a chance.

(YEs, Todd and Alexe are brother and sister, and they have another sister, Piper, who is competing at Nationals in Junior Dance. How would you like to be Dr. and Mrs. Gilles paying for all that?!!!)

GO FIGURE SKATERS! Don’t be like my presidential candidate and my football team!

A lot of us can’t due to age or infirmities.

When my mother was still alive, suffering with advanced rheumatoid arthritis, she used to love watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs, on TV. I remember when Michael Johnson won the Olympic Gold Medal in his gold shoes, my mother said, “He was so beautiful when he ran.”

If you don’t like to watch sports, fine. But many other Americans DO love sports.

BTW, if you divide up that high salary that an athlete receives by the number of people that he/she touches (on TV and in person) with every performance or game, you will discover that per person touched, an athlete actually makes LESS money than many other people, usually less than a dollar a person. Just a different way of looking at it.

Also, consider how many other people make money off of these athletes. There are bars, restaurants, souvenir shops, etc. in Chicago that only exist because of the Cubs, Bears, White Sox, Blackhawks, Bulls, etc., and these little joints provide an income for the owners, waiters and waitresses, vendors, etc. I’m sure the same is true in all the other cities with professional sports franchises.

And think of all the youth teams that buy McDonalds and Subway after the game, and stay in hotels and motels and ride buses to competitions and buy uniforms from the local supplier. All those people make money off of these younger teams.

Even in the ice skating world, a lot of people make a little extra money because of the Scott Hamiltons and Kristi Yamaguchis who are now millionaires. The Chicago Jazz synchronized skating teams include over a hundred skaters (and their parents), ALL of whom need to stay in hotels and buy food from restaurants when the Jazz travels to a competition. That’s a lot of maids and waiters and waitresses getting paid to help take care of the Jazz.

I’m usually not too interested in sports, but I am glad the Steelers won, obviously since I live in Pittsburgh.

You should have heard it on the campus last night when they won. I was walking up from the music school (no need to watch the game, hearing the final score is good enough), and heard people cheering everywhere. I heard something that I might have mistaken for fireworks, but I don’t know what they were. Very loud, though.

The team makes me nervous. They’re never consistently good or bad.

Hi seeker–I agree. Last night was not their best I don’t think–they just didn’t look organized…they really need to play better to win the superbowl.

I lived in Pittsburgh for a while…it’s a charming city with a lot of culture and history. I miss it sometimes. My dh grew up there.

I clicked on your piano repetoire link…I play piano too, although don’t play as much as I’d like or used to. I love the classics, and my fave piece to play on the piano is Debussy’s Clair De Lune…I also love Bach’s two part inventions, and Mozart. 👍

Thanks for your post, Cat. I love hearing about figure skating from you. I love to watch it …and hearing about it from an ‘insider’ like yourself, is kinda cool!

STEELERS Ahhh the sweet taste of victory!!! Yes I am originally a Philly girl, and should have been routing for the Eagles too, but I lost respect for them years ago when I had them over my apt in college. I know it isn’t the same team as back then… but gosh that memory dies hard.
