Is watching porn a mortal sin without masturbating? Also, what constitutes porn? Is looking at pictures of naked women not having sex considered porn?

Is watching a TV show that will most likely feature a sex scene ok?

Seriously

I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but I was not addressing this question towards infidels and heretics.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Right.

And you seriously want to know, because you don’t know, if watching pornography without masturbating is a sin.

You could read the Catechism of the Catholic Church and see what it has to say about pornography.

You’re also obligated to keep a well formed conscience.

What’s your gut instinct telling you about watching porn?

That’s very rude. 😦

Seems like the “infidel and heretic” pointed YOU in the RIGHT direction. 😃

From your own Catechism:

2354 Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials.

2396 Among the** sins **gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices.

Yes it’s a mortal sin. Don’t go anywhere near porn!! It will drag you away from God and into hell.

Seriously…this question makes me cross. Think, man! Of course it’s mortal. In your heart of hearts, do you seriously think it’s ok?

Ok, thanks but what about the other questions?

This particular infidel is quite knowledgeable and tends to give clear, accurate answers to questions about Catholicism. She does a better job that many of the Catholics. It is rather embarrassing for us. 😊

WOW.
I’m just speechless.

Really?

atheistgirl, on behalf of all Catholics- this. is. not. okay.

SHEESH!

[BIBLEDRB]Matthew 5:27-28[/BIBLEDRB]

Catechism of the Catholic Church:

2351 Lust is disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes.

vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p3s2c2a6.htm

So, sexual pleasure/desire can only be legitimately enjoyed within the context of a non-contraceptive intercourse with your spouse.

If that TV show leads you to lust, it’s probably not OK and is imprudent to watch.

Taken positively, denouncing lust allows us to make use of our sexual faculty the way God intended it to work for us - to bond husbands and wives AND to enable procreation. It enables us to participate in God’s life-giving love. Lust distorts the meaning of sex and prevents us from fulfilling God’s plan for us. It makes sex an instrument of selfishness rather than an act of love.

Sarah, you are an apologist in the making, I swear!! 😛 (And no, that was not sarcastic!)

Well that’s a bit uncharitable as well. His question was idiotic, but there’s no need to call him names.
One thing that makes me ashamed about being Catholic is how so many of my fellow Catholic brothers and sisters are rude. Many of my Muslim friends would agree that asking whether something is sinful is never idiotic. Even though my Muslim brothers and sisters are of a different faith, I find many of them more respectful than the Catholics I’ve encountered. As for atheistgirl, I don’t know who she is. With her first post in this thread adding no content, I had to assume she was an infidel trolling.

Also, I grew up with Christians who belonged to very liberal denominations such as the Episcopal Church. What is sexually immoral and what’s not was very debatable growing up.
