So, after a few months of being lazy and missing Mass, I went to reconciliation and recieved at Mass straight after.

In between the end of my confession and the beginning of Mass, i noticed the watchtower organisation (I won’t call them Jehovah’s Witnesses anymore as I don’t believe they witness for Jehovah) had left a copy of ‘‘Alive!’’ in the pews, so I took it outside, tore it up and placed it in the bin. After Mass I took it up with father, who promptly dismissed it and said ‘‘Not much we can do’’.

Am I wrong to be annoyed about what they’ve done? Is there anything I can actually do about it aside from monitoring the church 24/7?

Nope. They were in the wrong.

It’s a public building. Unless they are loitering, or making a public nuisance of themselves, you can’t throw them out.

Just do precisely what you did. That is what I do with their “literature”… In reality, that’s about all you can do. Beyond that, if the Parish was to seek an injunction against them to cease and desist…they would scream about 1st Amendment Rights and put on the “martyr’s robes”…

My “evil twin” if he were to express his opinion…would probably suggest taking a whole bunch of “Catholic Literature” and placing it on the windshields of the cars in their parking lots…maybe that might send a message. But my “good twin” says that could prompt them to ratchet it up a notch or two…

Personally, the real me thinks that ignoring them is the best course. People like that feed on negative attention. I can’t imagine any Catholic that would bother reading the stuff… I treat it like I do "chick’ tracts…they go in the nearest “circular file”.

Honestly, when I read the subject title of your thread, it made me chuckle a little. Laugh it off, it’s not a big deal. If you really want to do something, I’d respond in kind with a few copies of Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth. 👍 Leave a few copies both at the nearest Witness Hall or whatever they call it, as well as in your own parish. Don’t be too perturbed about it though. I’m sure the person who left that literature in your church is well meaning albeit terribly misguided. Pray for them!

1st Amendment? No such thing here in the U.K 😛

Ah but they don’t actually mention the Word ‘‘Jehovah’’ on the first few pages, and as it isn’t accompanied by a Watchtower representative, people might think it was Catholic. I only noticed because I’ve read their literature before and i noticed the unmistakeable artwork.

I would have shreaded the booklets and left the remains on the doorstep of there Kingdom hall 😃

Good ideas. I’m ashamed to say I didn’t even think to pray for them :o

:o Wow, I’m batting 100% today…error wise!! I apologize! I should have looked at your “location”… :o

In some ways you’re lucky… maybe.

Ahhh, so they’re using the “special sneaky deceptive” issues… I’ve seen something like that. They go to a lot of trouble printing up gerbil and birdcage liners… Looks like you may have to take on a little project…

I can give you some hints on projects…but I’d best not… Don’t really want you or I to get into hot water with Interpol and/or Scotland Yard! 😃

Maybe you can tactfully let some of the other parishioners know about it…and they an keep an eye out for the stuff and help you get rid of it…🙂

What sort of project could that be 😃 ?

I’ll let some of the parish know, and I might bring it up with another priest (we’re blessed with four and usually one long term visiting priest at a time). Thanks RobHom.

Really, you don’t want to know. That was my evil twin trying to get out…and if you did what he might suggest…the “Bobbies” would be looking for you! 😃

I can’t believe it… I remembered what an “arbalest” was, but completely bombed on the “jabot”😦 But I put 1100 grains in the pot!! Kind of an interesting way to help feed the poor…and test your brain and knowledge of the “English” language…and I do mean “ENGLISH”!! We don’t use too many of them thar werds on dis side o’ da pond!! 😃

My pleasure… I am but a humble servant. And I do think that would really be the best way to go about it. No point in sinking to their level…😉

We don’t use those words too often over here either (jabot?)… It is a great challenge and a good way to use time we’d otherwise be wasting, especially considering the food price rise worldwide.

I know what you mean, our church had certain important members of the Nativity scene stolen a while back and our priest was assaulted.

And yeah, the magazine art is enough to give me diabetes. I saw an overly caucasian Jesus standing with carefully placed members of every race ever, that was the tell tale sign.

this is such a coincidence. i just got off the phone with an ex-neighbor of mine who left the catholic church 33 years ago and became a jehovah witness. it was the first time i had spoken with her since i was confirmed into the Catholic church. i told her that i had joined the RCC and i could hear her stop breathing on the other end of the line.
then she proceeded to tell me that i could start writing down all the things that are wrong that i see and sooner or later i will realize how wrong they are.
i said that so far i didn’t see anything wrong and really enjoyed the masses and visiting the adoration chapel. then she said how we are not supposed to pray to statues, etc. on and on she went. she used to give me the watchtowers when she lived across the street from me. people from her kingdom hall were always coming down the street ringing our doorbells. i don’t think they do that anymore.
they definitely think the catholic church is bad.

Jabot? Its this:

Noun 1. jabot - a ruffle on the front of a woman’s blouse or a man’s shirt
flounce, furbelow, ruffle, frill - a strip of pleated material used as a decoration or a trim

I guess its a 1600’s kinda thing… But I remember a Rock Band that wore shirts with them…just can’t remember their name… I think they may have been one of the English groups that were big in what we called the “British Invasion”…of music of course!

Next time keep the copy, and write on the front, ‘instead of leaving your lies in our church, why dont you stay and find out the truth’ and mail it back to them… 😃
