How do you feel about water being added to the wine before the consecration? How does this symbol help you pray?

The water represents the people, (us) being mixed with the blood of christ… we are one in his body now, we are the body of christ, he is the head… every time i see the water poured into the wine i’m reminded that now we are invited into his heart… it’s a beautiful thought to meditate on… 👍

The water also is a reminder of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. When Christ’s side was pierced his blood and water flowed from his body.

I heard someone speak on this awhile back, think it might have been Fr. Groeschel. Anyway, the speaker said that the one little drop of water, when mixed with the wine, becomes just as precious as the Sacred Blood; so we, too, who seem rather insignificant, become precious in God’s eyes when we receive Him and follow Him. I thought it was really beautiful!

The prayer that accompanies this action is:

“By the mystery of this water and wine, may we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled Himself to share in our humanity.”
