Glad you mentioned Cheech and Chong as they probably originated this genre (as you say) of boozy/woozy bros saying dumb things.

I was always curious about ‘Strange Brew’ (can’t believe that came out in 1983!) but never saw it, probably because deep down I doubted this sketch concept provided enough material for a feature length movie.

So did Dave Thomas, which is why they stole the plot of Hamlet and moved it to Canada. 🤣

If only he had stolen the plot of ‘Rosenkranz and Guildenstern are Dead’, they were born to play those roles.

There is none- they all made cash, people still spill ink debating them- no problem!!!

Andrea Martin as Edith Prickly!
Rick Moranis as the Gerry Todd video show.
Those shows were great.

@0Scarlett_nidiyilii I wonder if there’s a female equivalent and if not, why not.

Lucy and Ethel?
Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence?

But they didn’t do the semi-scripted stuff

haha, they have a joke about that in the opening scene! You should totally watch it. And don’t put a mouse in your beer to get freebies! 🤣

When I think of all the crazy characters they created on SCTV (Edith Prickley, Lola Heatherton, Guy Caballero, Johnny LaRue, Bobby Bittman, the Schmengis, etc.) the phrase ‘an embarrassment of riches’ comes to mind.
