I have been diagnosed with anxiety/depression. I do not want it to rule my life. For now, I am too scared to fly so I book trains to places. I am mostly scared of dying an untimely tragic death. Unfortunately I have known a few people who have. I would hate to die or for anyone to die a painful, untimely death. Things are what they are. It is the pain and unfamiliarity with death that scares me. I wish I could live to my 70s or beyond. How can I not let fear determine my choices? I have to be realistic for now I am not flying anytime soon or getting on roller-coasters. When I hear people die I think all their hopes and dreams have just gone away. The answer is pray and do not worry. Worrying is my go-to. I want safety and certainty.

Rationally, I’m sure you know there is nothing 100% safe. This world is but a second in time. Eternity awaits you. Now as I lose friends, I remind myself they have now seen the face of God. Their earthly struggle is over. No more fears or worries or pain.

Trust in God. He has a plan for you. Only He knows when your time will be.

God Bless You.

Thank You for that. I need to accept life’s sufferings without being scared.

Dear Lord, I hope my time is 50 years from now…

**Honestly, I think if it’s really painful for you, then please go and see a psychiatrist or a psychologist as counseling and medications (if needed) are really helpful in this fight (Speaking from experience). Fundamentally, however, please unite it to the Suffering of Jesus on the Cross and have that suffering applied to a vice in your life that you’d like to kick or a virtue that you’d like to grow in, or for any person or any other intention You can think of. If you’d like more in depth advice, please feel free to PM me. I have experience in struggling with anxiety (all the while I’m trying to live out the vocation of Seminarian). **

Hey CRATUS. I sort of suffer anxiety too. But in different ways. I mean I’m not afraid of dying. But I can understand the uptick in emotion that anxiety brings on. My advice is to find a pal. And vent all that clear and irrational feeling right out to them. I mean as long as they know it’s coming.

From there it’s just keeping to that routine. It sort of ebbs that way. I think the more the outer ear hears this stuff. The less fixated the brain gets on its own details. I don’t know. But I mean find that outlet. Then it can’t build up. I mean then the pressure has somewhere to go.

Peace CRATUS. You can vent to me anytime.

Your pal,

Trident

Hi Cratus,

I hear you, and I am going to be praying for you. Anxiety/depression is such an awful thing to shoulder. Do you have anyone that you can turn to? Maybe you can find someone who can be a prayer partner to you when you feel the waves of anxiety start to swell. If you don’t have anyone to turn to, feel free to message me whenever you need any prayers or someone to talk to.

God Bless!🙂

don’t know if this will sound funny to you but happened to remember a cookery thing on tv about hyperactive messed up children who were put on a strict diet of fresh fruit, veg, fish etc. no processed food, sugar etc. They were utterly different children, they stood quietly and were quietly happy and cheerful instead of the insanity they occupied previously.
diet, moderate exercise, and fewer chemicals if possible, i don’t agree with drugs for mild things. it may be a simple thing like diet is making you feel anxious or depressed, easy to fix too if it was that. good luck.

If you enjoy reading, you might consider the following books. One is large and old, and the other is slim and relatively new. The first is ***Self-Abandonment to Divine Providence, *** by J. P. de Caussade, S.J., and the other is Searching For and Maintaining Peace; A Small Treatise on Peace of Heart, by Father Jacques Philippe. Not that reading a book can necessarily cure serious anxiety, but they can be helpful when added to the other means of healing which God provides, like good counsel, changes in lifestyle, or medical assistance.

I have a worrying nature too, and I found that simplifying my life, as it became possible, has been a great help. As far as worrying about an untimely death, sometimes we really do have to work at developing trust in God’s providence (the books and good counsel can help), and in seeing where our fears are irrational. For as Jesus said, “Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to his life?” I know that facing this notion can be easier said than done (as I say, I am a notorious worrier!), but it is possible to achieve a greater level of peace.

Also, maybe consider the life of St. Therese of Lisieux, one of the best loved saints (her autobiography, The Story of a Soul, is another good read). She only lived 24 years, and tuberculosis was not a pleasant way to go, but she made her mark in this world hidden away in a cloistered convent doing little acts of love. It’s not how much time we get that matters, as much as what we do with the time we are given. And we do not have to do spectacular things to live a good life.

Hope this helps some, and may God bless us with His Peace.

Have you tried quitting coffee? Caffeine and other stimulants can cause all sorts of tension and anxiety and panic.

Try walking or swimming in the morning in lieu of coffee, and you may be surprised at how much better you feel.

I know that that holds very true for me personally.🤷

Stay close to the Lord in the Holy Eucharist.
Stay close to Him in adoration.
Padre Pio said “pray constantly and worry about nothing”.
Be close to the Lord by working with those less fortunate. Corporal works of mercy.
Pray for the children of the world…Spiritual works of mercy.
Wake up each day and ask the Holy Spirit to put you somewhere where you can be used for the greater glory of God. Sometimes, we find ourselves somewhere that we can make a small difference in someone’s life. We can help an old woman, we can be a shoulder to cry on, we can influence someone to be kinder. Many things. We never know what task the Holy Spirit has for us. All we have to do is make ourselves available, and be willing to act in love.
Anxiety can be crippling. Don’t allow yourself to fail into feeling helpless or hopeless.
You are a child of the King.
Be aware of how much He truly loves you. Every time you look at a crucifix, see His arms outstretched for you.
I’ll keep praying for you friend,
Peace.

Remember also that there are some things its okay to be anxious about or to dislike. If you don’t like flying and prefer the train, that’s absolutely fine. I’m the same way. Why get on a plane if that will cause you a problem but another method of transport will not?

Contemplative Prayer (see The Cloud of Unknowing) has been very effective for my anxiety and depression. Most clinical psychologists use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy today. Ask them, and many will hail meditation, but few will actually prescribe it; doubly so for Contemplative Prayer, which is religious. I’m still on my meds, but Contemplative Prayer has provided me with much peace and calm.

I suffer from Anxiety and Depression, too. Lots of people here have given wonderful advice. Do seek help, either from your GP, psychologist or a priest. Life really can get better. Read your Bible. God knows what fragile little creatures we are. I find these verses helpful.

Phil 4: 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

1 Peter 5:7- Cast all your cares and anxiety upon Him for He cares about you.

The Bible says “Do not fear” 365 times. One for every day of the year!

Don’t fear death. What would you say to a bride who feared her wedding night? Have faith in the love of your Beloved. We have a Beloved who has gone ahead to prepare a place for us like a Bridegroom for His Bride.

Don’t fear death to the point that you don’t live. If you take it too far it can even be a sin because it means you don’t trust God. Have Hope and have Faith in His Love and He will speak tenderly to you in your desert.

Good for you for not wanting to let it rule your life, and taking pro-active steps to help yourself.

Anxiety/Fear boils down to not trusting God and accepting His love for us.

“By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. 18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.” (I John 4:18).

When we are afraid, it is a sign that we need to be perfected in love. All of us do, some more than others.

When you give yourself completely to Christ, and place your life in His hands, you no longer need to fear death. This is what He meant when He commanded us to take up our cross and follow Him. A man carrying his cross had no life of his own ahead. He was walking into death. If we live each day as though it were our last day on earth, and trust Him to take us to Himself when the time is right, we do not need to fear to meet death.

Yes. I will still pray for a good death though. Hearing people die young and tragically shakes me.

We must put this completely in His hands and trust that He knows the number of days each of us need to be on the face of the earth. We must concentrate our energies on being ready to meet Him when it is our time.

I have schizophrenia and anxiety. Take your meds. Listen to your doctors and pray.
