It’s funny, but I never liked when we used to sing that at mass. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one. Good thing I haven’t heard it in church after seeing Stephen Colbert’s rendition. Not sure I would be able to keep from laughing.

There’s a reason I put this topic in Casual Discussion Cajun. I don’t intend to offend.

I guess gc, most people I know don’t go to mass to be entertained…that way of viewing mass would be very hollow.God bless.

I really appreciate a good homily though. One which provokes thought. An old style fire and brimstone would be fresh now.
Ok partly tongue in cheek. 🙂
I do need to do a study series on the Mass. have you done one Greenfields?

-guest speakers to do the Homily? like a lay theologian/academic
-liturgical dance (have actually seen this done back in the eightees)
Absolute nonsense. The Mass is not entertainment.

For your information only the ordained may give the homily, i.e. priests and deacons.
Lay people are NOT permitted to do that.

Sorry Cajun. My sense of humour will annoy you and others on here. I’m just being myself .honestly.
of course you’re right. We are there to give rather than be entertained. If I was serious about this topic I would’ve put it on another sub-forum.

I envy you. I don’t think I’ve ever felt like that at Mass.

I’m not a fan of that particular priest to be honest Cajun. But I promise to take a look at it before the day is out. OK?

You’re on my case Cajun . I feel the pressure! 🙂
didn’t realise the videos so long.
the first one I finished and got the main idea. we should attend Mass like football fans cheering for our hero, Jesus Christ. Is that right?

Cajun
watching the first one you put up.
basically saying “we get what we put into the Mass”. Sounds like something I would say as a teacher to the students. Of course I cant argue with that.
In other words put more than the minimum into the Mass.

I don’t want to the add to the pressure, but I can’t help recommending Scott Hahn’s The Lamb’s Supper as a great book for explaining Mass for anyone who might be interested.

I think understanding the Biblical reasons why we do what we do at Mass really helps bring it to life.

I’ve seen A Biblical Walk Through the Mass recommended, so it’s on my list to read.

I know Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict) wrote The Eucharist and The Spirit of the Liturgy but I haven’t read them yet. I’d like to read the second one, especially, to see what he says about the spirit behind Vatican II since there is so much division over it.

You and Shower of R will make it don’t worry. Looks like a stopover at Purgatory for me is the best case scenario. I honestly don’t want to go to Hell.
Now I have to thank you both for being so concerned about me and your intentions are noble, sincere and true. Cheers for that. If you can just allow me to choose paths which suit my particular personality. I’m sure you have priests and teachers which you prefer. Not that the ones you provided here Cajun, aren’t good.

OK I have to thank you for two recommendations.
The Case for Christ (the movie). I borrowed it from my Catholic Library. Strobel’s life story. it is above average and I will recommend it myself to others now.

The second is your recommendation of Kemper’s Imitation of Christ. It was you wasn’t it? I am totally wrapped in this book. It is absolutely awesome! I wish I had got onto it ages ago. Every page, every paragraph, every sentence just floors me! It’s better than the Bible. Oops. Can I say that?
thanks anyway. this may well be a life changer!

You’re so welcome! I’m so glad you liked Lee Strobel’s movie. Read the book and his other two, A Case for Faith and A Case for a Creator if you get a chance. I like the book because it goes more in-depth, but the movie is a great overview.

About The Imitation of Christ, it is awesome, isn’t it?? I have to read it very slowly and try to absorb it, because every sentence really is life-changing.❤️

I hope you aren’t feeling too harrassed or pressured. Since we don’t know what you like to read and watch, we can only make suggestions.

You’re on your own journey. But when you ask a question, we like to answer it! Lol, there’s certainly no lack of opinions on a forum like this. 😉
