We’ll mock Jesus but not Mohammed, says BBC boss

As a Christian, I just don’t watch TV. I pay for cable (so I have a right to see the shows) and then download (without the corrupt commercials) the shows that I want to see - I would never trust any television station to report even half-accurately half of the details of half of the story of a tenth of the news.

You’re leaving out the greater part of the story - the rest of the Gospel and NT - like all other Christian pacifists have ever tried to do. Jesus wasn’t a pacifist, and His Church certainly isn’t. He was preaching of justice, charity, and spiritual things, not being roll-overs for evil.
Waging peace is never “rolling over”…“non resistance” is not necessarily “pacifism”…we are to be citizens of another Kingdom…we do not live as others live…we do not behave as others behave…sometimes doing what is right has a cross at a juncture in the road…but then three days later…there’s another story there too. Doing the right thing doesn’t always get us the right results…but we still are to do the right thing.

Peace is not something that happens over night…or even weeks…or years…it takes a lifetime and beyond to “be at peace with all men as far as it is dependent upon you”…as I said…we don’t always like “being at peace with all men”…“turning the other cheek”…“going the second mile”…“bless those who curse you”…“pray for those who despitefully use you”…“love your enemies”…not very passive injunctions there…sacrifice, pain, and committment are involved…it’s not easy…no one is saying it is…“passive”? Love is a verb…it calls us to action…to love others even when they hurt us and mock us doesn’t sound too passive to me.

Non-resistance to evil is itself evil. One can not “wage peace” on aggressors. One must use reasonable force in self-defense, whether on the personal scale or in just war on the large scale.

As a Quaker, it’s just another misunderstanding of doctrine that comes from taking a handful of verses and sola-scripturating the rest of the Bible around them.

Not really news. We’ve known terrorism works for a while now. You kill a few dozen people, and suddenly you can dictate what is socially acceptable.

South Park demonstrated this very well a few years back. When Viacom refused to allow them to show Muhammed, they instead ended their show by having George Bush throw feces at Jesus (or was it the other way around?). Viacom, by the way, is an American company which at the time was headed by a Catholic.

I hate to say it, however, but Publisher is correct. Blessed are you who are persecuted for righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Hmmm, no Friend I know was ever “sola scriptura”…from Matthew to Revelation, we are called to live a differnt way than those around us…to “resist not evil…love our enemies…be at peace with all men…seek the welfare of others before that of ourselves”…we always are to be about doing…

So what are you going to do about this?

He was only candid about what is the truth.

Muslims are treated like children that you cannot offend or like retarded people whose whims are lunatic or as unstable people that may throw an atomic bomb over some cartoons. Unreliable people.

Christians on the contrary are reliable.

On the other hand, it confirms what my atheist friend tells me: “Christianity is the only religion of freedom”. Freedom means that you may do errors, mistakes, abuses.

In Islam, on the contrary, there is no freedom. You overtake the border and the religious police will cut your hand, foot, eye or, if you are lucky not to suffer more, they will cur your head. On Fridays, after the prayers. Videos available. Horrid…-

truer words were never spoken:thumbsup:

I’m glad he admitted the truth. But we’ve all known this to be true. It shows the media’s hypocrisy and cowardice.

Please! My son, who is “retarded” (an offensive term) does not need to be placated, nor are his whims lunatic.

And getting swords don’t leave that part out. 👍

I hope you’re joking. You don’t really want to go down the path of taking away freedom of speech and freedom of the press to get rid of bias. Imagine if Catholic publications suddenly had to start giving equal time and space to the other side(s). That would be a huge infringement. (And pretty much ensure that it wouldn’t be a Catholic news source anymore.)
Matthew 10:23
“And when they shall persecute you in this city, flee into another. Amen I say to you, you shall not finish all the cities of Israel, till the Son of man come.”

We have a lot of running to do. One day, we’ll have no where to run.

they know us christians will be upset and sad and maybe even angry, and they also know that we will not go crazy and start burning down cars, buildings, embassies, and committing suicide bombings of their bbc stations.

But they also know the consequences when it comes to mohamad & muslims.
bingo!!

I find this discussion very interesting on this Lenten Friday as it coincides with a recent epiphany I’ve had. It has recently hit me, as if I had never known it: How utterly cruel Christ’s death and suffering was! How public, how utterly tearing and humiliating, how defeating, how merciless and unjust, how terribly lonely and isolated with no one even to watch with him, how terribly cold and rejecting and contemptuous the whole thing was.

It has prompted me to ask a question that may sound silly coming from a Christian, but: WHY? 🤷 Why did it have to be so bad? Why so terrible? Jesus is so rejected- so offended by people, yet he’s so good by any objective standard any honest man from any culture might measure him with- Universally good, that’s Jesus. How can such a good person be the target of such hatred and violence and contempt? Why is he so much hated, this honestly holy person?

It prompted me to ask Our Lady to help me not to reject and offend him any more than he already suffered and any more than I’ve already offended him every single hour of every day of my life-- Jesus’ suffering is already too much! (But then almost immediately after-ward, I found myself already offending him in little cruelties and unkindness to others. 😛 But I’m not giving up and will continue to try.) Now on top of the unspeakable rejection expressed in the abuses and cruelties dealt to our Lord that Friday in Jerusalem, 2000 years ago, we have people throwing human waste at the image of Christ? Jesus suffers and endures too much. Its just an enigma- I’ve found myself puzzled and puzzling.

The comparison to Christianity and Islamic jouralism has been a hot topic everywhere. The World News Over covered it last night. The process of change is public awareness. And a constant confrontation of the Truth. No secret the level of journalism has been by large very corrupted. Well covered also on the BBC and self-evident on Fox and CNN etc.

Unfortuante that the motivation is fear in jounalism. There is no simple solution, for most motivated by fear are not living the Scriptures anyway, the contrast of fear and love just isn’t comprehended.

I also agree with Publisher, it is the truth, the Sermon on the Mount is very clear. Confronting evil is a very different concept than doing evil, and contrary to Scripture to resist all evil. Confronting evil is to put the truth up for what it is without resorting to fighting fire with fire, thus promoting peace through Love.

We see it daily throughout Christianity today. Perhaps we are not there so are disconnected to s degree, still the same I feel their pain.

Ignoring evil is to accept it, to accept it is to cooperate with it, to cooperate with it is to promote it. Fighting fire with fire creates a larger fire. Fighting fire with water puts out the fire, opposing opposites.

Christ changed the Silver Rule of Mose’s to the Golden Rule thus moral-ethical minimizing to moral-ethical maximizing. Its the Beatitudes, and consistant NT.

The church correctly understood is a suffering, persecuted Church, a pilgram in exile on Earth. If your only seeing worldy physical beauty my suggestion would be to purchase the CCC or borrow it from the local library. Well documented, well explained often read sola scriptura to our dismay. Yes its a literal Book, 688 pages, 800 with the index.

“if they do these things to Me in the the green wood, what will they do to You in the dry?”

St Paul on the road to Damascus is another stunning reality. Saul, Proud leader, killer of Christians, on his way to persecute more. Then, in flashing moment he was on the ground humbled, in a flashing moment the truth he did not know, could no longer be denied. And he preached it the rest of his life

He no longer rode to Damascus proud, but was lead by others because he could not see, “blind” and in humility. And in his life he came to know exactly what it was to be crucified on the Cross, just as the Lord said he would.

This who cannot understand and refuse to listen are Saul on the way to Damascus. Those who are persecuted for the Lord daily throughout this world, are BLESSED.

Such is the Faithful endurance the distinguishes Gods Holy people.

Peace

You called your son “retarded”. I would never call him that. Never. Period.
Here, and I treat children who do not go as fast as the others, we call them “children with special (or specific) needs”. Children with cerebral palsy, or brain damage or visual impairment or hard of hearing or whatsoever.
Anyhow, you may understand that I did not mean to offend your son.
If I did, I apologize.

Sometimes I wish the Lord would throw down a few well-placed lightning bolts and put the fear of you-know-where into a few of these anti-Christian, anti-Catholic government and media clowns.

Yes but the response of “We have two…” and then one of their use to chop a man’s ear off got the reponse…"“Peter, put up you sword, he that lives by the sword shall die by the sword”…I realize you are Baptist…seems to me that if Jesus addressed Peter directly when he stated “You are Peter…” and “bulid my church” gives way to the papacy…Jesus directly stating “PETER…put up your sword” would carry an equal amount of weight.🙂

He isn’t…and won’t…instead of behaving like Zeus…He entered our humanity to teach us a new way to live…a new way to be…a better way to handle conflict than violence…He calls us to “love your enemies…” “pray for those who despitefully use you”…“go the second mile”.
