Hello there. I reject many Catholic ideals. I reject many Protestant ideals. I have no dogma. I do not belong to any denomination.

Some may call me a Christian; some may call me a neopagan; some may call me an atheist. I do not care, but I do believe that Jesus was divinely inspired. Whether this was because of God’s nature or God’s will, I do not know, and neither do you. I believe Jesus is an important step to being a better person.

Most here are Catholic, and yet they belong to the same Church as the Protestants. As the Anabaptists. As the Anglicans. Stop the nonsense. Stop the fighting. We are all part of the Universal Church, are we not?

Even if your neighbor does not believe in Jesus, is he not a creation of God? All believe they are created by God. Some say they have been created by a Greek god, some a Hindu god, some the Abrahamic god, some by nature. I don’t think it matters much what we call God, He is the goodness in the world. What would He care?

So when you look at another being, no matter who they are, think to yourself: they have been created by God. They are here for a reason. Don’t be angry with them, don’t fight with them, whether it’s because of religion, or politics, or money.

It is understandable that you are angry at times; anger is something that God gave us. But do not fight unless you have to. Do not think you have to until you are absolutely sure. Remember that no matter what happens, God will prevail, whether you call Him God, or Thor, or Brahma, or Allah.

When you fight with others, are you not turning your back on God? After all, He is the goodness of the world.

“It is not a unity of religion we seek but a union of religious people. We may not be able to meet in the same pew, but we can meet together on our knees (as Christians)”

Archbishop Fulton J Sheen.

:amen:

(The “as Christians” are part of his original quote, I just wanted make the sentiment broader)

I truly agree with the Archbishop, but inside me burns the longing to be able to share His supper with my Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and all Christian siblings in Christ, at any of their altars, as well as mine, in true unity.

This friend speaks my mind.

so, we should stop tell people the Truth about Jesus Teachings because it can cause a fight?

If Jesus is leading you to tell whatever there will be no fighting. We should always use our words carefully.
So, Jesus tells one This is my Body, this is my Blood… and so forth. Jesus also tells another it is not? this is ok with you because you think Jesus is the one saying this?

I understand the longing, but we know that this wont happen. So we have to deal with what is, and not waste too much time longing for what we wish would be.

Then again, if we impliment what the Archbishop suggest, what you long for would have great chance of happening?

Something to think about.

Sorry but I must point out that this is a very dogmatic thing of you to say 😃

God bless you

You are awfully dogmatic for somebody who claims to have no dogma!

You seem to hold as absolute truths that:
  1. Jesus was divinely inspired.
  2. Catholics and Protestants are all part of the same church.
  3. There is a universal church.
  4. It doesn’t matter what we call God.
  5. He doesn’t care what we call Him.
  6. He is the goodness of the world.
  7. We’re all created by God.
  8. We shouldn’t fight unless we have to.
  9. When you fight with others, you are turning your back on God.
Some of these things I would agree with, some I would disagree with, some I agree with with reservations. There isn’t an item on your list that wouldn’t be disputed by somebody.

I would just say that when people say things like “let’s get rid of all that dogma” or “let’s get down to the important stuff”, those statements are dogmatic. What constitutes the “important stuff” is dogmatic and subject to disagreement. Saying that dogma doesn’t matter is a dogma. I think people get tired of looking for the truth, or despair that it can’t be found, so they try to reduce their beliefs down to what they “feel” is right. They go from believing something is true based on an effort to find what objective truth is, to believing in something to be true based on their subjective human experience, what “seems right” or what “obviously is right”, or what “we can all agree on”. I’m not saying that these sorts of people get it entirely wrong. After all, God has written His law on our hearts, so it’s hard to get things all wrong, or even mostly wrong. Mostly I think that these people are kidding themselves when they say that they aren’t dogmatic or that it doesn’t matter what people believe as long as they’ve got the “important stuff down”.

I would say that if somebody has investigated a claim like “Jesus is the savior”, for instance, and found good reasons to believe it is true, they should share that truth with others. Not sharing it would be akin to a dragon sitting on his horde of treasure. If people are in need of a savior and we tell them otherwise are we not lying to them? Are we not denying them the surest means of being saved, that is, that ability to consciously know, love, and serve Jesus Christ?

so, we should stop tell people the Truth about Jesus Teachings because it can cause a fight?
Sigh. No but your Truth may not be where another brother or sister is on their path. And visa versa. Sadly Christianity, of which Catholicism is a part of, is split. Catholics may blame the Reformation. Protestants may say reform was/is necessary due to human failings in the Church which in turn needed/need corrected. God speaks to each of us and I trust we each do the best we can to interpret what He is telling us. The problem exists when one person thinks they have the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth while the truth truly is none of us truly KNOW. That’s why we call this thing FAITH.

Now it’s fine to want to spread our faith. But we should do so in the most compassionate, inclusive, loving manner humanly possible. With the understanding we each are merely striving toward the same goal. Eternity with our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. Now I confess I am human and I fail at this myself sometimes. But Tweetymom said it best. We need to think carefully how we choose our words. Case in point. A pet peeve of mine is when the more conservative, “purist” Catholics in today’s Church tell other Catholics that they are not Catholic. That’s not even within doctrine. And the Church changes. Albeit slowly, too slowly for me sometimes. But it changes. What you may be so strongly advocating today may be out the window tomorrow. I can site numerous changes in the Church since it’s beginning. Golly even the first Pope Peter was married! And I can remember when Catholics couldn’t eat meat on ANY Fri. Now it’s just any Fri of Lent. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Anyways a most blessed and healthy new year to all. Grant us peace.

Jn 6:37. Jon, if you are ELCA I think your church does just that. Of the ones you mentioned the Anglicans and many others do too. God bless.

Used to be, now LCMS. And yes, I was aware of the open communion Churches, though it is short of true unity. Thanks for the clarification.
