I just want to say to everyone, particularly the moderators and frequent participants in the Non-Catholic Religions forum, how thankful I am that we have an online place to come and debate doctrinal distinctions in an open way. When we talk about Protestants or Orthodox issues, or even LDS and Watchtower, we have the opportunity to actually hear from people who hold differing viewpoints. Non-Catholics are allowed to fully participate, and that is a good thing.

The reason I bring this up is that I have had a frustrating experience lately with another online religious forum (I’m going to refrain from naming it). It is a forum organized much like CAF, but from an Evangelical perspective. They have a forum for debate about differences between Christians, and most of the threads deal with Catholic issues (how Catholics worship Mary, kill True Christians, wickedly tell their people not to leave the Catholic Church and become Evangelicals, etc.). And yet, even though the forum is supposedly open to all, they limit membership to “Christians” and Catholics don’t meet their “belief requirements.” That’s what I was told in the email rejecting my registration. I objected, calling on them to either ban Catholic bashing or allow a Catholic defense. They can have an Evangelicals-only forum if they want, but they shouldn’t have one-sided “debates” about Catholicism. I also pledged to limit my posting to correcting misconceptions about the Catholic Faith, but as of yet, they have refused. It is clear from reading the threads in that forum that their debate is not very fruitful except in reinforcing previously held misconceptions.

well, I was convinced to take a Bible class on one forum but I didn’t participate. My profile’s status said I am “not reliable”. I learned not to go back there again - it’s not worth it.

For CAF, thanks to the Catholic.com; however, you can still see a few complain sometimes; you can’t please everybody though.

I agree. These people do the best job I have ever seen of allowing totally free exchange, as long as it stays clean. I post on another that is not that bad, but even there they are clear not that promoting Catholicism is not allowed. I totally respect their limits. Since they are privately funded, they have the right not to fund the promotion of things they do not agree with. They are open and accepting to Catholics their and do allow correction of errors and falsehoods. I frequently do not even have to do this, though, as many non-Catholics there still believe in promoting truth.

Here on this forum, we recently have had a new rule prohibiting naming politicians. I understand this is critical to maintaining their status as a not for profit religious organtization. My other forum does not maintain any status like that, so anything political goes.

I think it is important to recognize the purpose and the limitations of any forum where one posts. The rules are there for a reason and should be followed, or one should move on. I know it is frustrating when forums completely block out any rebuttal and allow only like-minded posters. Just realize that their devolvement into groupthink is their own reward.

I also appreciate the moderators and frequent participants in the Non-Catholic Religions forum where one could really enjoy as to what is a free will. Different religions and denominations discussing so complicated religious issues peacefully and respectfully and under the atmosphere of international brotherhood.

Though I don’t share the same belief as you do and many times I don’t agree with your belief, I could see that you are very calm in answering your posts. I admire you for that.

Out of curiosity, I just checked in on the forums I mentioned in the first post. Were you aware that we Catholics are so into Mary all the time, praying to her, singing to her, worshiping her, that we never talk about Christ?

I must go to a weird parish because we talk about Jesus all the time!

I hadn’t thought of that! But, actually I would be quite happy if the forums I’m talking about shut down their Catholic bashing forum. In fact, I asked them to do that if they weren’t going to allow Catholics to participate.

P.S. I’m not implying that the Eastern Christianity forum was an Orthodox bashing forum or anything like that. I’m just saying shutting down a forum or changing it’s emphasis would be very welcome in this case.

The Eastern Catholicism forum is up and running. There is still a forum for non-Catholics, it is just that Eastern non-Catholics do not get their own section. Since this site opened, there have been several reorganization of forums.

IMHO, I believe that CAF is the modern day Peter’s “NET”! A great number of Good and Bad fishes alike are caght in this interNET site. But I dont worry much about “bad fishes” for they are outnumbered by the “good ones”, powered by the Holy Spirit.

The influence of the evil one is still prevalent. He is the one who vainly tried to tempt even Christ out of founding His church. He is the one who sows the seeds of division amongst good Christians. He is the one who is laughing about Christians fighting each other instead of fighting his evil.

He is the one who has influenced the shattering of the Body of Christ into thousands of pieces, while his evil body remains united. Let us soundly reject the evil one in all of his guises, appealing out of love to those whom he has blinded.
