We are destroying the faith from inside

We pray fo Jesus to unitešŸ™ But He needs our cooperation.
Right. Just as Jesus prayed for us to be united, knowing that we’d be divided by default. He knew it would take a centering on him to be the answer.

People on their own are dirt whispering hippies, frankly.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

We are too divisive, if CAF is any sort of population representation on a global scale.
I do not think that CAF is representative of most Catholics in the world.

TBH, I do not think that most Catholics really care about much more than how to live their faith in their everyday life.

I find that here at CAF we get a cross section of some pretty extreme views (both right & left) and very little of what I would consider ā€œmain streamā€ Catholic thought.

Jesus have mercy on the souls in purgatory and the souls on earth.

Mother of Mercy, pray for us.
St. Joseph, pray for us.
All the saints and angels, pray for us.

I agree. CAF is sort of a hothouse and flytrap for various people.
Each time I have tried to take a CAF discussion to my peers, they look at me, baffled, and say one of two things:
  1. WHAT are you talking about? (Laypeople)
  2. You’re really reading that junk, are you? (ordained)
    Actually three remarks:
  3. Can you believe what so-and-so just posted? ( CAF friends) 😃
CAF is definitely not indicative of mainstream parishes in America.
Although we do encounter the same questions over and over in parishes, mostly about how things are done.

Don’t forget ā€œyou should probably stop frustrating yourself with some of those idiots.ā€

More seriously: I’ve noticed online discussions tend to center themselves around the members with the most extreme views. If one person says something that’s very out there, the next page, at least, will likely be devoted to replying to that person, and more moderate voices tend to be ignored. This tends to make the overall population look even more extreme than it actually is.

When the ratio of CAF members to guests is considered along with the number of views which include returning folks, the moderate voices are heard.

I think of CAF as a family.

There are some relatives you get along with and others not so much.

šŸ™‚

This reminds me of what my priest told me when I joined his parish.

ā€œWelcome, first the good news, we’re just like family, now the bad news, we’re just like family.ā€

You’re quite brave. I rarely even try. In any event, I have all of maybe 2 Catholic friends who would even have a clue what I was going on about.

I am trying to watch a documentary on the Mormons and when the elders get into some esoteric point of their faith or start telling some far-out story about Joseph Smith, it struck me that I must sound just like the nice man in a suit in the video, to my agnostic friends.

Trying to figure out what this thread has to do with Traditional Catholicism ?

Traditional Catholicism is holding the fort.

Each human person is worthy of profound respect.

Yes a nice calming crochet session on ravellry…

the point here is solidarity, regardless of opinions. Grow the Catholic counterculture in solidarity in this secular world.

We are too divisive, if CAF is any sort of population representation on a global scale.
I had to look up " ravellry" and I happened to find a site for crochet. Great,Rose! Need to improve skills …I knit with two needles when I can.
The best for me is the projects with wood and paint and loose stuff that we have around. Redressing. A touch sewing a trim here, a bit of decoupage there, sanding and painting old furniture, that kind of stuff . And my husband is very lovely to help me build and repair my crazy creative stuff. An opportunity to be together too.in a common project…
I find in handcraft a lot of common ground with other people. And shared time to talk and do something, and also for others.
My mother- in -law who died last year over 90 y o,had her sewing group for years. And they made clothes, blankets and mended clothes for persons who needed some help. And they prayed. I admired their joy and perseverance, and how their friendship lasted decades…
When they grew older, their daughters drove them to their meetings so that they could continue.
That is solidarity and within their possibilities and how much we learn by example…
May they be together in Heaven now. Lovable persons.

What is ā€˜moderate’ other than a subjective judgement based around one’s own views positioned roughly in the centre?

That is one way to see the world. I am referring to a ā€œsubjective judgement based around one’s own views positioned roughly in the centre?ā€

There is another way to see the world which is known as curiosity.

But is that moderate curiosity or extreme curiosity?

Terms such as moderate or extreme are fairly pointless and have no objective anchor point. Is opposition to abortion an extremist position? There are plenty of people who would say it is. And what about opposition to gay marriage? Is that extremist?

What matters is not whether someone holds "moderate’ or ā€˜extreme’ views, but whether these views are right or wrong.

In the geographic location which was my childhood home, curiosity meant curiosity and everyone knew curiosity without ten thousand adjectives.
