CBS News. Unbelievable. First story of the night. It’s hard for me to defend the Church anymore.

We will not have closure…the media will not allow it, nor will Satan…so we should make the best of it. Do not deny that it happend, Do not say it won’t happen again, as Satan will make sure it does, but show kindness and Charity and SUPPORT our Priests…We need to move on. We need closure from these scandals from decades ago. The victims need closure also.
you dont need to. just be faithful to her. can you suffer in silence?CBS News. Unbelievable. First story of the night. It’s hard for me to defend the Church anymore.![]()
Have you read this?Yep, I know what you mean. I turn on CTV, and then out of no-where “after letter of apology from Pope, investigations into Catholic church ___ abuse cases of boysgo as far as the Pope himeslf”, I am going to go crazy the next time I hear such nonsense!
I’m not sure… is this the news segment you are referring to?CBS News. Unbelievable. :
The Vatican on Thursday strongly defended its decision not to defrock an American priest accused of molesting some 200 deaf boys in Wisconsin and denounced what it called a campaign to smear Pope Benedict XVI and his aides.
Church and Vatican documents showed that in the mid-1990s, two Wisconsin bishops urged the Vatican office led by then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger - now the pope - to let them hold a church trial against the Rev. Lawrence Murphy. The bishops admitted the trial was coming years after the alleged abuse, but argued that the deaf community in Milwaukee was demanding justice from the church.
cbsnews.com/stories/2010/03/25/national/main6333250.shtml?tag=stackDespite the extensive and grave allegations against Murphy, Ratzinger’s deputy at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith ruled that the alleged molestation had occurred too long ago and that Murphy - then ailing and elderly - should instead repent and be restricted from celebrating Mass outside of his diocese.
I hear you…This is so frustrating. I turn on the news and two channels are trying to vilify the Church and the Pope. Its practically slander. Pray for the Church and our Holy Father, as well as the victims and the souls of the perpetrators.
What Beau, said.No one seems to be dealing with the relevant questions"
Let’s be responsible here. Children and Church standing are the victims.
- Are the reports accurate?
- If the reports are accurate, is the Church making the proper response?
Your response is concise and accurate. I couldn’t have put those words out that well.we? not me. I have done nothing wrong.
Any priest or any employee of any church organization who perpretrated such crimes deserves villification at the very least. Any bishop of any level who knew about it and covered it up deserves to have that labelled for what it is, negligence of the worst kind. The cover up is always worse than the crime, and the fall-out when it is discovered, as inevitably happens is correspondingly worse than the reaction to the original crime.
Yes the tar on the brush falls on everyone, but those who are innocent need worry only about God’s judgment.
I am so sick of hearing, as I have ever since I got a paid job serving the church, everytime such a story breaks locally “oh yes, we suspected something, or everybody knew about it, or it was openly acknowledged what went on there.” My standard reply is that anyone who suspected or always knew, or acknowledged is an accessory after the fact and deserves treatment from the law as the same.
I am also tired of reporters and other commentators who lament that the Church did not discover and punish perpetrators fail to cite the fact that in many if not most of these cases local law enforcement was equally lax and incompetent when matters were reported, and that astonishingly until the 90s or even later such abuses were not even considered criminal acts.
the third thing that galls me is lamenting that a given priest was not defrocked. That is a disciplinary measure that is taken at the discretion of the Vatican and only when there is a reason for it, and reason to think it will prevent further infractions. It also usually means that after that man is laicized the Vatican, his diocese or his order now have no way to keep track of him. That was the case for instance with a notorious priest in Mass. who was defrocked, whose crimes were reported in the 70s and 80s before the church found out and enacted the ultimate discipline. The Church was criticized when it became public in the 90s that as a lay person (living with a gay lover) he was arrested for crimes against chldren (the law had never acted in the earlier allegations although the diocese had paid out claims and removed him from ministry). Because the man had been laicized the Church had no way of knowing where he was, and the criticism was vociferous at the time because of it. You can’t have it both ways.
I agree. If the claims against the leaders of our Church are true and there was a cover-up, then they deserve the same treatment as if a highschool principle had protected a child molester and allowed him to remain working with children. No one seems to be dealing with the relevant questions"

I remember Obama being criticized for putting his feet on the desk at the Oval Office, for not wearing a lapel pin, etc. So I think the answer to that is yes.So does the evening news vilify President Obama for all the big and little ills in our country? Does any one here have mind to or time to start listing all the problems in the US population?
The secular media has always made it their job to try and demonize the Church.
Get it?
.
Come on…get with it. You know what I mean.I remember Obama being criticized for putting his feet on the desk at the Oval Office, for not wearing a lapel pin, etc. So I think the answer to that is yes.
