That is because you are reading an incorrect bible. You have had seven books taken from you by Luther himself.
Remember this Scripture passage which reads:
"Saved, but only as through fire"
You Protestants agree that real Holiness is a requirement from Heaven, but disagree with the purification process, believing instead in some sort of “instantaneous” transformation at death for the redeemed.
Scriptural evidence for Purgatory:
**Psalm 66:12
Ecclesiastes 12:14
Isaiah 4:4
Isaiah 6:5-7
2 Maccabees 12:39-42, 44-45
Matthew 5:22
Matthew 5:25-26
Matthew 12:32
1 Cor 3:11-15
2 Cor 5:10 (Sins are judged here rather than forgiven).
**🙂
Let me ask you this: If a person believes in Purgatory and knows that they can go there instead of Hell to be purified of these sins, then what would stop them from committing these sins? I like the idea of Purgatory, but I don’t think that The Bible proves that Purgatory is real. No, I’m not reading an incorrect Bible, just one that is different from what you are reading.

The Bible on celibacy: 1 Timothy 4:1-5

The Second Commandment: Exodus 20:4-6
I have read The Bible, and I haven’t read about anything that sounds like Purgatory. You either accept God’s gift of salvation and have eternal life or reject His will and spend eternity in Hell paying for your sins.
If you read only the bible for your source of Absolute Truth then you probably don’t know many things: 1. that Jesus is God; that isn’t made clear at all in the Bible; 2. that the Godhead is a Trinity; that isn’t made clear either. One can go on and on.

If the bible is your sole source for the Rule of Faith, you are in big trouble.

Bible doesn’t prove a darn thing. Bible is a book; books are inanimate and can’t prove anything. Proof comes from a living being who can reason and logically think. Books can’t think for you.

Let me ask you this: if you believe one is saved by a one-time act of faith, then why would you ever stop sinning?

Your problem [you have many], that is, one problem of yours in addition to reading an incomplete bible, is that you use only your intelligence to try to understand Absolute Truth. You cast aside the infallibility of the apostolic Church which is guided by the Holy Spirit in passing on God’s Truth to the end of time.

Do you seriously think she is going to let a little matter as trivial as the official teachings of the catholic church interfer with her interpretation of catholicism  😃
Actually, to be a stickler *, the question of the status of protestant churches, is not a matter of faith and morals. At least not to my understanding. Therefore, catholics should not be obliged to accept protestant churches, if that is their inclination.

Are you implying that I am lying? Simply read some history regarding that time period and look it up your Catechism or any post-conciliar documents from Vatican II. These are the hard facts. No lies, no deception. Pure facts. 🙂

And we are dead sure that we are the true Church of Christ as well.👍 We recognize our Roman brethren as Apostolic. I’m sorry to hear that you cannot do the same, even though your Church does. 😦

In Christ,
Andrew
Andrew,

Ignore those who attack your Church. I am hardcore Roman Catholic, and I have always viewed my Orthodox brothers and sisters as equally apostolic. Catholic and Orthodox trace their roots back to Christ and the Apostles. We were the same Church back then. God willing, we will soon be One again.

Yes I’ve noticed you beg to differ with a lot of facts you are given, even from your own church. Although, to be honest, it does sound more and more like you have your own vesion of catholicism, than the catholicicm I understand that the Pope is the leader of. You still have not answered my question on the other thread. I won’t persue it any further because I know you cant.

And yes, the catholic church does recognise the valid apostolic succession of the Orthodox church. You didn’t know that, did you 😃 See, read, study, listen. You’ll discover tons more you dont know about your catholic faith. As I told you before, catholicism is not a magic cloak you put on, and suddenly you know everything. 😛 You have to work on it. Some people have more work to do than others  😃

Never mind. Hey, I’ll be around, and I’ll pop in and help you out every now and then. For now, I want to discuss and read about catholicism with people that know what they’re talking about 😃
Hi,

Before you go, you might want to consider that during that time of great troubles, there was a sudden explosive impact of Holy Men and Women among BOTH Laity and Religious. In fact, there had never been a time throughout Church history when there were more men and women committing themselves to lives of poverty, simplicity and devotion. 👍

Some of our great Saints and religious orders originated in that troubled time. 👍

Blessings and peace.

In answer to your question, Purgatory is only for those judged by our Savior as being saved. Those who go to Purgatory need to be purified as only the pure can enter heaven. We all need to be purified. To take your hypothetical, if one continues sinning because one does not fear Hell, then when that person dies, it is highly unlikely that such a person in GOD’s eyes, would merit salvation. This means that this person is not qualified to enter Purgatory because Purgatory is only for the saved.

sambos671;5395444:
QUOTE]
I do not believe faith is “real” unless faith is acted upon. To say you believe in Jesus must mean you do what he says. So like James says faith without works is dead. Faith alone (or belief alone) does not save. Faith with works enacted in love is the saving kind.
I think we must all agree with this.

The Catholic Catechism says ‘to know Him is to love HIm and to serve Him!’

We have nothing to give Christ that matters except our love. Our total uncompromised committed love.
However, Christ did not take on the sins of the whole world,
I find that repugnant and am sure you did not mean it the way it is put.

My understanding is that Christ MORE than compensated for the sins of the WHOLE world [as St Paul rightly tells us].
Ransome" refers to Jesus being incarnated as a representative of the human race and to willingly undergo His Passion
In 1000 years there will be people who do not agree with you NOT because you have misinterpreted but because words are organic, that is to say 'they alter and take on new meanings over the course of time. We should not therefore get too hooked up on any one given word but to take the word in the context of the WHOLE text.
It does not refer to His taking on mankind’s sins.
 Sounds like a bit of a contradiction to me
Jesus atoned for our faults and made satisfaction for our sins to the Father
Er yes and no!

i do not believe that when He died, the Father said: 'ah well, I am now satisfied. No, I think He was as hurt as was Christ if not more so, to see His only Begotten Son die, let alone such a painful and ignimous death. I would say that the Father was there right beside Him and the Holy Spirit too, even though They were not present to Christ’s senses in the same way that for most of the time, God is not present to our senses but He is still there, right beside us. 🙂

Christ the creator of all that exists ‘through Him all things were made and not one ting in all creation was made without Him’ Jn1:3-4. Christ took FULL RESPONSIBILITY for His creation even when they CHOSE to disobey.

But to say that it ‘satisfied the Father’ is a bit of a misnomer. In one sense but not that the Father demanded it, rather, the Father is perfect. Infinite love demands infinite justice. It is a pre-requisite of His authority and love. Were it not so, He would not be ALL powerful.

It was because God is who He is that the consequences of disobedience was so devastating, but that does not mean that the Father relished in the sufferings of Christ or needed some sort of bizarre satisfaction from seeing His Son crucified. His infinite love demands infinite justice. Only God Himself could pay the price since only God is infinite.
Christ cannot have taken on our sins.
Being God, He is Perfect Justice. Justice for sins is Death, Eternal Death.
Amen
Whereas, Catholics do not view justification as a one-time act.
‘Through the suffering of my servant will many be justified!’

It is a one time act but it is also a free gift to us [seeings we can do nothing to earn it]. But as with all gifts, we can also lose it or reject it. If we at first accept then decide later on to reject it, then we have essentially rejected Christ’s salvation, which is of itself sin and grieviously since it ‘calls Him a liar!’ 1Jn 5-10

For a gift to be received, it must be accepted. Your boss could give you a cheque as a special bonus, but you have to accept it, if you chose to tear it up and throw it away, the gift is STILL valid, your boss has still been generous towards you but you have refused to accept it. The price of man’s sin has still been paid but the gift has been rejected. Christ paid the price but He does not compel anyone to accept.

Anyone who does accept, can still sin and fall short so that they have sin that needs reparation [confessing before Almighty God]. The price of that sin has been paid but the consequences of that sin remain. Infinite justice’ demand for satisfaction for sin has been made and until it is made, we are still in a state of sin but not necessarily in forfeit of eternal life, depending on the gravity of the sin.

Protestantism is …] a personal system of belief and lifestyle that capitalizes on one’s subjective “understanding,” one’s personal preferences
,

One can go further than that, I have heard non-Catholics tell me that 'the Bible is to be interpreted and as many as there are people, so there are interpretations as the Bible speaks to each as an individual.

I agree it is a living Word so we can all get something very personal from it, but it’s core message is a universal proclamation of the truth…and only ONE version of it! 🙂
They reject THE Church. They can only be described as “coming out of THE Church” as one can say Lucifer came out of heaven on his way to hell.
Blessings and peace
