Things like this will inflame people and only push them away. Do you want to see Protestants become Catholic or not?
if this causes people to refrain from RCIA classes and further investigation into the Church… well, they have a problem…
Rhetoric like this regardless of your opinion can upset and harm people from seeing your point of view. They might equate your words and actions with that of all Catholics. While that might sound silly, it does happen. Would you want that to happen?
What i WANT to do is speak the truth… If you don’t like my truth (or the truth)… well, don’t answer my posts… Simple…
I have never heard of any Protestant “worshiping Luther” or Wesley or Calvin for that matter.
well, i haven’t seen any Catholic worshipping mary or the saints but we get accused of it right & left… and when people post things here quoting Luther and acting like he was so wonderful…well, that smacks of worship to me… and i am sure to others… It’s almost like (with some) if Luther didn’t believe it, neither am i… HUH???

So, if I express great admiration for Pope Benedict XVI (I do), and quote him (I have), and act like he is truly a wonderful Christian leader (he clearly is), that means I am worshipping him?
i get the feeling Lutherans and others don’t just want dialogue… they want to change the RCC’s mind on things. Good luck… that’s all i can say…
usccb.org/seia/lutheran.shtml

I invite you to read through some of these documents, and try to come away holding the same impression of Lutherans that you express here - that we just don’t want dialogue. I think you’ll find it impossible to do. You make I claim about Lutherans I don’t believe you can support.

i didn’t word that as well as i should have. Just doing those things does not indicate worship. I can’t recall exactly waht some poster said about Luther a few days ago but it sounded very much like worship… wish i could remember … but o well… it was the only post i’ve found lately that sounded worshipful of ML but still, we Catholics get tired of being accused of such nonsense… In fact, the main problem i have about non-Catholic churches isthat too many of them seem SO incredibly anti-Catholic… If it weren’t for THAT… well, maybe i wouldn’t mind going to one of their social events or what have you once in awhile…

i used to do that… As soon as i told them i was Catholic, i would get the cold shoulder…

It is baloney, you are right. Somewhere along the line, those of us who are truly interested in unity have to do three things:
  1. Distinguish those on the other side of the schism who are interested in unity, from those who are not.
  2. Try not to paint the other side of the schism with too broad a brush.
  3. Trust the Holy Spirit to guide us.
No cold shoulders here,
Jon*

well, some Catholics have given me the cold shoulder also… I have this knack for getting on people’s bad side… wehther Catholic or protestant or whatever… thmmm…:hmmm:

but it’s kind of annoying being hated for something you can’t help… like being a fanatical Catholic… and … comparatively speaking… i kind of am fanatical…

but you know… according to some other persons… i probably am not fanatical enough…

other persons like ME…

Hi Distracted, i don’t think your fanatical.

I actually admire the way you stand for catholic teaching and doctrine. that’s courage, because we shouldn’t worry what people think. Just remind yourself that when you defend catholic church you defend Jesus himself, he’s opinion is the only that should concern you.

By reading your posts i think you are devout, smart, articulate and passionate for christ!

Keep it up and don’t let ANYONE stop you, it didn’t stop the saints!👍

Thankyou.

I’ll say i’m a practising catholic and not a devout one, I’d be an insult to the real devout catholics…

Keep up the good fight, remember what St oaul said “teach the faith, in season and out!”🙂

**“We Catholics Are Dead Sure The Church Is The One Church Of Christ And That All Others Are Mistaken” **

Yes, but…it all comes down to Christ. “Do you believe in what Jesus said, did and represents?” That’s the ultimate question. It isn’t, “Do you believe in the Church?” It isn’t, “Do you believe in the Bible?” It’s simply, “Do you believe in Jesus?” To me, *that’s *the bottom line.👍

You are correct it all does come down to Christ, the church doesn’t say any different. That’s why the church has the eucharist (keeps the promise that out lord will never leave his church). Without the eucharist the church cannot stand, we don’t follow the church because it has a pope or saints, we follow the church because it is the church that christ built. Peter (i.e papacy) is thr rock that christ built his church on here on earth.

To believe in Jesus is to believe in his church, it’s the same thing. The bible, ofcourse we believe in the bible, but who put the bible together in the 4th century? the catholic church. the church was there before the bible.

Trinity is not in the bible either…

the word Bible is not in the Bible…

the word Purgatory isnt either but there IS a purgatory and it is alluded to in many scriptures…

Peter was the 1st pope…

There had to be a pope because Jesus was ascending into Heaven and the Church had to be propagated and continued until the end.

Jesus told Peter to “feed [His] lambs”… he told him this 3 times…
What’s with the debate over “is it in the Bible.” Catholicism proceeds from sacred Scripture and Tradition. So there’s tons of stuff “not in the Bible” yet covered by Sacred Tradition. Am I missing something there?

Agreed, but you started this silliness.

I would not be too certain about that.
Peter was the 1st pope…
He was the first Apostle to lead the church community located at Antioch, and then the church community located at Rome.
There had to be a pope because Jesus was ascending into Heaven and the Church had to be propagated and continued until the end.
This does not follow.
Jesus told Peter to “feed [His] lambs”… he told him this 3 times…
Yes, this was during Peter’s ‘confession’.

He denied Jesus Christ 3 times and Jesus was ‘holding his feet to the fire’ so to say. Peter was very sorrowful and guilt-ridden at this point, he knew he blew it and he knew God knew he blew it.

This was not a mandate to take over the church and boss everyone around, it was a charge given to him by Christ to straighten up and fly right.

I will try to give an honest answer here.

We Catholics know there are huge problems with the Church. Immense problems. Yet, no active member contends that such problems are doctrinal in nature. The modern Catholic Church faces a changing social landscape, a disproportionate ratio of fallen-away Catholics to new converts, widespread misconceptions about our beliefs and things having to do with the relevance of the Church in the modern age. We get that, and this is something we Catholics will have to sort out and fix together.

Why have you seen so many sisters seeking to be ordained? I don’t know. There have always been people who have desired more from the Church, and who wonder why things aren’t this way or that way. That’s never going to change. And on your point about the lay person who asked “I wish my church encouraged me to study the Bible like you.” We know that Catholic education is sorely lacking, and that the faithful aren’t being engaged in the faith enough as many would like. There appears to be a growing and extraordinarily positive sentiment amongst today’s Catholics to study and read the Bible, but it isn’t widespread enough.

The Catholic Church is a monolith. It’s huge, and remains the largest organized body of believers in the world. With something that monolithic, it becomes difficult to manage effectively. I imagine that His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI knows about the massive problems we have, and is doing his absolute best to resolve them. We need to create a culture of virtuousness and charity, but for whatever reason, that has become much harder in today’s world. I trust God that things will improve in the end.

And be assured that most Catholics believe that the majority of Protestants will go to heaven. They’re our brothers and sisters in Christ, and hold the goodness inherent to the human race.
Out of curiosity, what are these immense problems withing the Catholic church other than a few priests who were named in abuse? If this is what you mean, it happens in all churches and denominations. What are these immense problems that you personally know of?

Get to page 34 of this study to see if there is truth in the declaration of this thread.

God Bless.

Hi todd, you get around. I want to thank you and your false history for showing me why we need the Chair of Peter. You have never responded to me on the historian Josephus showing Revelation is the most Catholic Book of the Bible.God takes everything the devil intends for evil and turns it around for his glory.:bowdown2: You have shown me, it is true, Jesus would have to have left an infallible teaching authority other wise it is all chaos.
Bless you in the name of Jesus.
Peace
