We had Latin Mass in NW LA this evening!

:D:D:DI just have to share with you all the wonderful Latin Mass we had this evening (Sunday). As you guys know I’ve been praying for a long time for this to occur on a Sunday sometime and was so thrilled to see it scheduled for this evening. I wish you all could have been there! 😃 Our priest did a fabulous job - just excellent. The choir sounded like angels from the choir loft - they did an incredible job. They do a great job but tonight it was enough to give you shivers because it was so incredibly worshipful. It was so easy to pray while they were singing and our priest was silently or quietly saying his prayers at the altar. The church was full and I can’t tell you how good it was to see them all there. The altar boys did such a good job and it was a joy to see them all kneeling at the altar when we went up for communion. The procession was just a joy to behold and I’m sooooo grateful! I could feel the stress melting away from people during the chanting. Whoever did the programs did the most excellent job ever. It was so easy to follow the program compared to the last program we had. People were able to respond correctly, sit, kneel and stand at the correct times. It was important to me that everyone could follow along and respond correctly so they felt they were offering Mass as well. It’s easier for us but how great to see the entire parish that was present do everything and say everything at the right times. My only regret is not being able to stop and say thank you, thank you and “great job” to our priest because my husband is still recuperating from being under the weather last week. I wish you all could have been there so you could feel the history emanating from the architecture, stained glass windows, breathtaking altar (remember that I attend a Cathedral)… I can’t praise and thank God enough for the ability to worship as has been done for thousands of years. It makes Christ so real and correct- it was everything that we love about being Christians. I thought about everyone on this section of the site and wished you all could have been able to worship with us this evening. What a blessing a good, Godly Bishop and Priest make! I wish the Bishop could have seen how worshipful and what a great job everyone did but he must have been in another parish. I surely wish that my wonderful priest in CA could have had this Bishop in his life (and I’m hoping the new one will prove to be a blessing in his life because he certainly deserves to have a good Bishop in his life, too). Sorry, I know I’m running on but I could hardly wait to share it all with everyone because I know that you all would appreciate it./COLOR]
 
I know just how you feel! Last week, I went to my very first Latin Mass and it was beautiful! I wasn’t able to follow though (I don’t think I had the right program.) But still, beautiful chanting, beautiful Mass; I loved it.

Congratulations on the EF Mass in your area. You must “thank” those who worked so hard to make sure that it was so beautiful. A Missa Cantata is tough to accomplish unless ALL the parties involved cooperate. The choir is essential. The Altar boys need to be trained and be willing to be trained.

Getting the brass ware polished and the Altar “dressed” properly is near a lost art. To find folks that understand the “whys” and “hows” of the Mass can be tough.

So, its important to start with your priest, then the choir, then the Altar boys and all the “trainers”.

I am so happy for you 🙂 !!! I’ve only been to three, my third yesterday, and all of it I can relate to, the shivers, everything. Every Mass touches me but these ones do infinitely more! I cannot even imagine the days when this was all they had… it’s the mystery of the Universe why the whole world wasn’t Catholic then. I could never take the Latin Mass for granted, and pray that I never do… We are all blessed beyond belief, all of us who have attended a Latin Mass! :heaven:
 
Why was the EF served in the evening? The directives for celebrating the EF mass is to use the rubrics from 1962, correct? In 1962 mass was forbidden to be said after 12 noon. therefore the EF should be said in the MORNING only. In my opinion it is a bad thing to start mixing modern post Vatican II practices such as mass in the evening with the EF.😦 I have even seen the EF served by “alter girls”. :mad:

Not quite. The rule changed in the early 1950s (1953, if I recall correctly, with the promulgation of the Apostolic Constitution Christus Dominus).

The timing of Mass was not really part of the rubrics per-se, but rather came from applicable Law, so it’s really a non-issue.

I have never seen nor even heard of an “altar girl” in the EF. And I don’t know of one priest who offers the EF who would ever even consider such a thing.
