I’m sure you’ve heard that phrase, and I just did tonight. So I need some perspective. How often do you repeat meals? Once a week? Every 2 weeks? 1 a month?

I think my kids don’t know how good they have it. I serve a home cooked meal every night and never repeat a meal during a calendar monthl. Maybe a leftover night for necessity 2x’s a month. We might take them out for an occasion every other month.

So please let me know how often meals are repeated in your house. Thanks!
That’s great … I worked very hard in my younger years to have a great list of recipes for menus … so I can also do 30 meals a month quite easily … quite a few are Italian, some Spanish and of course American … it’s fun to have a variety.

Now back to your question … having the ability to make 30 or more meals does not necessarily mean there are no repeats … as my daughter was growing up and she had friends over to dinner there were always requests for favorites … so there were times that we repeated … but not too often … I like variety.

I think I’ve told this story before:

My daughter spent the night at a friend’s house many miles from us.
When she called me to say goodnight, she said "Oh mama! It’s so much fun here! We went out for breakfast! Then we went our for lunch! Then we ordered pizza, and now we just came back from a place where they hand spun shakes! It’s great!

The next weekend, we switched. The other little girl stayed at our house.
She called her mama from my kitchen phone:

“Mama! She made pancakes out of some goop she made out of butter and flour and other stuff. Then she cracked open eggs and made them in a man and they were great!
For lunch, she let us make our own sandwiches, and made us some cheese dip to go with them!
For dinner she smashed REAL potatoes and made whipped potatoes! I’ve never seen anyone do that! They had meat loaf! Mama! Did you know you can make this stuff at home? She said she’d teach me to make some of these things, I can’t wait to show you!”

Nothing makes anything taste great like missing mama’s home cooking. 👍
