God is not a representation of any human aspects. He is often poetically described that way, but the ineffable quality of God, and His utter omnipotence, should be a hint at the difference between gods and God.

Brahma is “the cursed creator”. Zeus is an egotistical bastard husband and father.

I agree completely. And since you see fit to judge other ideas of the divine, allow me to dissect yours.
Excellent! That is precisely what I’d like you to DO! 🙂
The Christian God is terribly lacking when held up to your own standard: a self-admittedly jealous, bloodthirsty dictator with an accountability problem – what could be more representative of humanity?
What “standard” are you talking about?

He is jealous, because He is the ONLY being worthy of worshiping, as there are no others other than usurping demons, and since by “jealous” it is meant “one should give what is due to those to whom it is due”, God has every right to be jealous of our “affections” because it is for our own good.

God is not bloodthirsty. No blood is spilled except by His creations, and every instance of suffering (which is really what you mean by “blood-letting”) is super-abundantly rewarded.

He IS the only utterly worthy and good authority, and as such SHOULD dictate how we should behave, but He obviously doesn’t “automatically enforce” His “dictates”, as He won’t violate our free will.

How does God have an “accountability problem”?
Later theologians have realized this and valiantly attempted to compensate for it but there is no hiding the ugliness of this being which is no God.
Who are these “later theologians”? And what do you think they are “hiding”?

Any so-called theologian who doesn’t rely on public revelation and interpretation thereof from the Magisterium of the Church (Catholic), has no authority to make conclusions whatsoever, and what they say is just so much random trivia. 🙂

Hello,

Huh!? Please show me how YOU’D pull off that clever bit of mathematics? Your definition of “can equal” seems just a BIT faulty, as far as I can tell.

Heard of algebra?
OK. So, let’s see the “algebra” which makes “1+1=3” a true statement (equation)?

( “1+1=3” IS an algebraic statement, by the way. )

OK. Now we’re descending into “I know you are but what am I!?”-ism.

Since I’m not interested in playing such schoolyard games, we may in fact be done here, as you’ve proved your point, which is that you never “quite” made it out of the 3rd grade.

The statement is false (untrue) because it didn’t happen, though it IS falsifiable. How do we know, how is it falsifiable? See the above logic.
Last Thursdayism in unfalsifiable because it requires the perfect appearance of age. Any tests we can do cannot distinguish between an old world and a world created last Thursday with the perfect appearance of being old. Unfalsifiability is not a good criterion. A better one is that the statement is testable and has passed all the tests.
To you “Last Thursdayism” is indeed unfalsifiable. To you it is just as plausible as any other theory of “creation”.

To me it is not unfalsifiable, because the Magisterium tells me that it is nonsense.

We may each choose what we want to believe, now don’t we? 🙂

**
Let’s sum it up:**
Is there an absolute truth? (One…)
Are there absolute truths? (…or many?)

Either there is or there is not?
Which means, a “YES or NO” answer.
(Though I know answers will not be so straight forward)
There is an absolute truth (God).

There ARE absolute truths (1+1=2, 2+2=4, etc…)

The “absolute” qualifier simply means that the truth (the truth itself) behind the statement of that truth (within the bounds of description) has actually happened.

I did not think it would take 110 posts later for us to to begin a consensus.

Notice I said “begin”…

Though, this thread was not intended to describe what that Absolute Truth is (or is not). Just that we agree that there is one.

Thanks CatsAndDogs for continuing to post…I can not always be around to refute and dispute arguments.

Thanks to everyone for posting also! Whether we agree or not!

You DIDN’T!? Seriously!? 🙂

You ain’t been in these here parts too long, have’s 'ya?

I think that we can all agree that it’s more time consuming to disagree than it is to agree!

Then again…

<chuckle, chuckle, chuckle, chuckle…>

You’re right…I was being very naive!
Sometimes hanging out in these forums is like a week of bad camping in “Blair Witch Project” territory!

Is that an absolute truth? LoL!
Yes it is, and they are. All “chuckles” are absolute truths.

I now wish I would have put a poll with this thread…save the hassle.

Now I need to pray about what “part 2” should be.

Though…I am not sure if we are ready to move on from “part 1”

Those who are ready, were always ready.

Those who aren’t ready, will never be ready.

(( Didn’t the big Thommy Aquin, or Auggie O’Hippo, say that somewhere? ))

I am not sure…but it is a great quote either way.

Please pray for “part 2”…mainly…what would be the next best topic.
Thanks!
