There are a couple of important things to keep in mind. One is that attitudes that are expressed on a Catholic discussion forum on the internet don’t always represent the truth attitude of the Catholic Church.
The second is that there’s a difference between asking whether or not it was a good idea to dogmatically define such-and-such dogma, and asking what we should do now that it has been defined. In particular, Cardinal Newman clearly stated that dogmatically defining Papal Infallibility had been a bad idea, but once it had been dogmatically defined, he didn’t say “That was a bad idea, so let’s just pretend it never happened.”
