we must stop acting differently depending on who we are with. If we tell a joke to a friend; we should feel comfortable with sharing that same joke with a priest. if not, who are we trying to please? Men or God?
 
I’m not sure what your point is. I don’t speak about certain topics or hobbies because they may not be of interest to other persons. As for jokes, not all jokes are necessarily universal in appeal. My Jewish friend rarely gets any of the Catholic jokes that he hears, hence, I don’t share them with him.

I hear you! It does get frustrating when someone answers a question differently depending on who they are talking to or what the wording and tone of the question were. I’ve had quite a bit of experience with this and I think I have have become pretty good at being able to generate a desired response from someone based on the wording I use. People will often say contradictory things based on how a question is said.

And yes - I fully understand your last point! It bugs me often. But who am I to talk? I’m scrupulous and confused about things anyway.
 
huh? I am not sure I understand what you are talking about, can you be more specific?

from the title i think we should stop with crazy punctuation, or we should stop making vague threads.

now if only i could get the others to understand what we are talking about: its kind of like how you pretty yourself up when going for a job interview; and then just lazily walk into church with whatever you decided to throw on.

I’m not entirely sure what the OP is getting at, and not to say that there are “situational” ethics, but to some extent we may need to behave differently with different people in order to witness.

St. Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians has some (admittedly limited) applicability here:

We can only speak for ourselves.
 
Newbie stole my St. Paul quote. 😉

If your point is that we should not be two-faced and simply tell everyone what they want to hear – even if it means lying – then, yes, we definiely shouldn’t do that.

However, I don’t think Christians are commanded to speak to everyone the same way. I’m not going to trade “Simpsons” references and news about the latest progressive metal albums with my boss the way I would with my brother. That would just be weird. 😛

Also, I’m not going to talk to my wife ther same way I talk to a stranger. People form bonds with other people, and some of those bonds are more intimate than others. Sometimes that may lead to “behaving differently” around different people. There’s nothing wrong with that.
