We need a new word to replace "Reformation"

I believe that clarity of language is important, especially on matters of religion.

Objectively speaking, the word “Reformation” is unbiased. It implies neither good nor bad. It just means that something has been changed or altered. Not everything new is good.

But in this society, where newer is always better, “Reformation” suggests an improvement of some kind.

I know that the Church uses “Reformation” in her own documents, but exactly who coined that word? The reformers?

I think we need a new word to replace “Reformation.” One that is accurate and impartial. “Revolution” will not work, because although it is accurate it is impartial for the same reasons.

Any suggestions?

DEFORMATION will do. Luther deformed the belief of orthodox Christianity.

Wow! That’s excellent! (Although it does sound biased.)

Good start to the replies…

How about the “Great Church De-centralization” or the “Era of Free Market Christianity”?

How about “transformation” or, perhaps better, "separation."Maybe even “repudiation.”

Actually, I like the term “insurrection” or “Christian anarchy!”

Not bad…but it’s got to be limited to one word.
Why?

I believe that it is truly called the Protestant Reformation.

It seems that people get lazy and want quick one word names for things.

How about “Rebellion”? Brings to mind a spoiled teenager who can’t get his way at home…

Maybe “tantrum” is the word you are looking for then?

Rebellions can be good things.

This is a really spiritual and Christ like post session going on here. Is this the best way that you think that you can serve God?

Someone tried to give me bad reputation because of my prior comment stating, “Get a sense of humor.” Well it didn’t work I still have 23 reputation points. If you have a comment or concern about my post put it where people can see it and I can reply.

I think that I have given one negative reputation point in all of my time on this bulletin board. One thing that I always do is sign my name when I try to give or take reputation. It keeps me honest.

I do have a sense of humor, but I try not to do it at the expense of others – although I have at times and I apologize for that…

Let me ask you how people would respond if I asked what we should really call the Catholic Church, and then people started saying derogatory words that meant “distortion” and the like. This is not humor it is pot shots.

Good luck–trying to counter almost 500 years of terminological usage.

If anyone found my response to be objectionable and offensive, I apologize. It wasn’t meant to be that way.

I see it as 500 years of continuous divisions when we should all be looking for unity. How many churches are offshoots of another one because of differences? Now, we see doctrine being revised, in the form of accepting lesbian ministers, homosexuality, abortion.

Where or when will it end?
