Cat Stevens (aka Yusuf Islam)

He’s an apostate from Orthodoxy, willingly doing what his ancestors cheerfully chose death rather than do.

Why would anyone leave Orthodoxy for Islam? And reading on his wikipedia page that he first began his conversion after being told by some Moroccan that the call to prayer is “music for God”…that just sounds ridiculous. He had heard of music being made for all sorts of other reasons, but never for God, apparently.

I guess he must’ve been asleep during Orthodox services. They are some of the most beautiful music in the world, and ENTIRELY for God.

What a shame.

Whoa, ok, I take that back. He’s been completely brainwashed.

Damm, that’s too bad. I used to love his music.

I guess there is no such thing as a moderate Muslim.
Oh well, I tried.
Well that’s silly. Because the one guy you picked out (who’s actually well known for being nuts) is nuts, every Muslim is equally nuts?

There most certainly are moderate Muslims. I’ve met them. My father has taught them. I’ve been in class with them. Cat Stevens, though, is not one of them.

What is a moderate Muslim anyway?

**Supposedly one who condemns jihad and violence as being inconsistent with the “Religion of Peace.”

However, such people are either deafening in their silence–or else conspicuous by their absence.

God bless the Crusaders!

That wouldn’t be a “moderate” Muslim, but a “non-Muslim.”

God bless the Crusaders!
Does that include the Normans, for whom the Crusade was a land grab from the Byzantines, and violated their oath to return the lands they took? Does it include the Fourth Crusaders, who basically said “Screw it, let’s attack Constantinople instead!”?

Of the major first crusade leaders, there really just two who took it seriously as a religious pilgrimage-Raymond of Toulouse and Bishop Adhemar du Puy.

Stephen of Blois went home, Godfrey and Bohemund broke their oaths to Emperor Alexius, Tancred went off to Edessa…the leaders of that crusade really were not holy men.

The second crusade didn’t have all that much to do with Jerusalem, either. The city was already in Christian hands, and while King Louis VII wanted to go to on a pilgrimage, Conrad got some bizarre idea to and take Damascus to rescue Baldwin from captivity (Baldwin had the same foolhardy idea and got himself captured), and got the army destroyed.

The third crusade was aimed at Jerusalem, but Richard and Phillip were too busy feuding with each other to get their act together. The fourth crusade was a mess, and is really a war between Venice and the Byzantines.

By the time you get to the Fifth Crusade, nobody was even trying to go to the Levant.

I do not understand either why an Orthodox Christian scream “God bless the Crusaders!”. Maybe the context is different.

I’m guessing, but given the context of this thread, don’t think it was meant to mean too much other than referring to their mission… to rid the Holy Land of the Muslim invaders.

and you consider yourself Muslim???
Yes, I am a Muslim. And Muslims don’t describe themselves or others usually as “moderate,” because it’s an extremely misleading term.

On the one hand, Muslims are supposed to be a “moderate nation” in the sense that they are in the middle, and not to the extreme on either side. So all of Islam could be “moderate.” Not going to extremes in either direction.

On the other hand, Yvonne Ridley for one presents the point that you can’t be “moderately Muslim” any more than you can be “moderately pregnant.” Either you are a Muslim, or you aren’t one.

If you are one, then you’re going to be a “moderate” because Islam has no hand in extremism.

But what Westerners typically mean when they say “moderate” is “not-very-devout.” I.e., the Muslim who doesn’t pray five times a day or rejects jihad. But such a person has really lost a hold on Islam at that point and aren’t really a Muslim in the first place.

So mainstream Muslims like myself generally reject the term.

What this thread is asking for is Muslims who don’t really believe in Islam in the first place. I think that’s pretty lame. 🤷

I have some friends on this forum who are not Muslim, nor do they even post about Islam, who have raised objections about some of the administration. And I do find it odd that some people manage to get away with certain forms of bashing of Islam… but I’d say It has absolutely nothing to do with Israel, nor with Jews. I wouldn’t call it a Jewish conspiracy theory at all.

Sorry if you got that impression.

How 'bout this:GOD BLESS THE CRUSADERS!For the original intent of ridding the Holy Land from the foreign invaders.By the by,sport,I don’t think you’ll find many Jews, zionist or non zionist who have ANYTHING good to say about the Crusades or Crusaders since they too were sometimes attacked by some evil doers amongst the Crusaders.I am not a Jew,nor am I a Zionist but a Catholic who follows Christ, not a murdering xenophobic child molester like Mohammed.
